Original broadside for a reading at the Royal Albert Hall on June 11, 1965, signed by Trocchi (Topolski's Chronicle, Vol. XIII, Nos. 281-282)

London: Feliks Topolski, 1965. First and only edition. Folded broadside, revealing when unfolded a large scale graphic and textual portrayal of a poetry reading that became a watershed moment in 1960s British counterculture. SIGNED by Alexander Trocchi at the inclusion of his essay. The broadside was published as a part of Topolski's prolific ongoing "Chronicle" series. The recto of the broadside includes illustrations after Topolski's drawings of many of the reading's participants, including a very large portrait of Allen Ginsberg, Trocchi, and others, with Trocchi's essay below. The verso includes poems from a number of poets, each reproduced from the respective poet's original holograph. Trocchi's essay is a document of the event, and notes that "Pablo Neruda promised but failed to come. He was tracked down at a more formal reading in Belgrave Square." Trocchi, along with Michael Horovitz and John Hopkis, coordinated the event.23 x 36 inches (58.5 x 91.5 cm) unfolded. Near Fine.

OSKARZAMY HITLEROWCÓW O ZBRODNIE 1939-1945: ZWIAZEK POLSKICH ARTYSTÓW PLASTYKÓW W KRAKOWIE I ZWIAZEK BOJOWNIKÓW O WOLNOSC I DEMOKRACJE W KRAKOWIE.

Kraków : Zwiazek Polskich Artystów Plastyków W Krakowie, 1965. 1st edition. Original printed paper wrappers, 8vo, 159 pages, primarily illustrations ; 20 cm. Fully illustrated exhibition catalog for the important one-month show of works produced by Polish artists imprisoned in Concentration Camps. The title translates as: ?Accusing the Nazis of their Crimes, 1939-1945: The Role of Polish Artists from Krakow and the Krakow Society of Fighters for Freedom and Democracy. ? Text in Polish with summaries in Russian, French, English and German. ?Under the black wall of the Death Block at KL Auschwitz, a great many of Cracow?s artists, arrested in the Spring of 1942, met their death, while others went to fill of the camps dispersed through the Third Reich, to die of starvation and disease, from torture and exhaustion. The prison community, though evidently ignorant of the private directives issued by the central SS authorities for the destruction of the Polish leading circles, by instinct, as it were, and desirous to save these links so essential to the nation?s organism, tried to do its best to alleviate the imprisoned artists? camp existence. Everything that could be done was done, frequently wth touching proof of loving solicitude [sic]. Artists were always given first place on the prisoner self-help lists, and surrounded with an atmosphere of true respect, a thing so rare and priceless in the circumstances of camp life. Their fellow-sufferers tried even to provide them with some sort of primitive conditions for work, and every sketch, design or sculpture produced under illegal or semi-legal conditions, was considered almost as it if were sacred, being another proof of resistance, another sign of survival of those very forces the enemy was so keen to destroy? (Tadeusz Holuj, pp 152-153) . "1965, 22. VII-22. VIII, wystawa dla uczczenia artystów plastyków poleglych zamordowanych I wiezionych, 1939-1945? (July 22 ? August 22, Exhibition to Celebrate the Artists who were Murdered and Imprisoned) . Cover title is ?Oskarzamy hitleryzm I hitlerowców o zbrodnie. ?         God Bless You Mr. Rosewater, or Pearls Before Swine

New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1965 First edition, first printing. One of 5,000 copies. Publisher's black cloth and white marbled boards; in the original white pictorial dust jacket designed by Murray Tinkleman, with an illustration of a pig dressed as a fireman and riding a bicycle to the front panel in pink, black, and yellow, lettered in orange, pink and yellow. Near fine, with some minor toning to the spine ends, faint rubbing to the spine, former owner's 1965 inscription to the front free endpaper, else bright and clean; unclipped dust jacket, with a few tiny nicks to the corners, bright spine, fresh panels. A near fine, very clean and attractive copy. Pieratt and Klinkowitz AF1. Vonnegut's fifth novel, God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater tells the story of Eliot Rosewater, the heir to the Rosewater fortune who has traded in the lavish life of a socialite for a humbler existence as a volunteer fireman. Although the text centers on this plot, this critique of economic inequality reads less like a novel and more, as Martin Levin wrote in his 1965 New York Times review, "an ideological parfait." Notably, God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater marks the first appearance of Vonnegut's fictional science fiction writer and alter ego, Kilgore Trout.. 1st Edition.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Dust Jacket Included.

The Man With the Golden Gun.

London: Jonathan Cape, 1965.. FIRST STATE of the First Issue, bound in Linson cloth with a large 'Gun' motif gilt-stamped to the front board, patterned green endpapers. Octavo, pp.221. In pictorial jacket. Faint spotting to top edge, binding slightly bumped but is otherwise clean and tight. The gilt on the gun is particularly bright (often found spotted or tarnished). The jacket shows a minor wear to the head and tail of the spine with a short closed tear to the rear panel. Overall a crisp clean, near fine copy housed in a collector's leather-spined clamshell box. The rare 'Gun' cover was dropped due to financial reasons after 940 copies had been bound and exported to the Colonies. Spurious copies are known, but first issues can be easily identified as, upon comparison, the initial cloth used has an entirely different pattern to the more common (plain) binding. A legendary James Bond high-spot.

[Archive of White House Memoranda and Other Documents from LBJ Pollster Fred Panzer]

(Washington, D.C.), (1965-1969). Very good. Group of ten 3? binders containing primarily inter-office memos from Fred Panzer, dating from January 1966 to January 1969. Most measuring 8.5" x 11?, primarily carbon, some typed and some photocopy on a variety of paper stocks. Various other documents: photocopied reports, newspaper and magazine articles, etc. Also includes: two 3? binders dating from July 1966-Feb 1967 containing memos by or to Tad Cantril; two 3? binders containing research for a position paper addressing the ?credibility gap?; two 1.5? binders containing information on administration accomplishments from 1965; two folders containing transcripts of the LBJ Library Oral History Project interview with Panzer; and relating ephemera. Approximately four linear feet in all. Original binders unsalvageable and now perished; rehoused in new three-ring binders, maintaining original divisions and order. Two volumes exhibiting moderate rodentia loss to page edges (not effecting any text). Overall very good. An exhaustive archive of polling, public opinion, and related papers (including memos and other internal communications, research materials, and like) belonging to Fred Panzer, President Lyndon B. Johnson?s chief pollster. More than any other president that preceding him, Johnson relied on polling. Similar statements could also have been made of JFK (and arguably Truman?and even FDR), but Johnson commissioned more than four times the number of polls as Kennedy. And while Kennedy utilized polling primarily in crafting his message, LBJ was the first president to extensively use polls in his decision- and policy-making. Therefore polling ? and by extension Fred Panzer ? helped shape the presidency in a way that hadn?t been seen before. Ten binders from the desk of Fred Panzer make up the bulk of the archive, creating an exhaustive survey of his work at the White House. Several additional binders of related materials (research, file copies, etc.) round out the archive. Together, a comprehensive look at executive branch polling, both its directions and effects, during a particularly turbulent time in American history, all from the point of view of a man at the center of modern political public opinion. A binder-level inventory is available on request.

        Box of Pin-Ups.

London: Weidenfeld and Nicolson,, [1965]. Original card clamshell box (380 x 330mm), containing 36 loose plates; each a full page half tone reproduction of a photographic portrait with biographical details of the sitters on the verso. With the piece of plain brown paper and the piece of corrugated cardboard inserted as packaging. Scuff marks and rubbing to the lid, corners and edges archivally repaired, each plate in superb condition. First edition, sole impression. This seminal collection of portraits by Bailey is one of the great iconic representations of the Swinging Sixties in London. The subjects typify the newly formed social elite ranging from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones through minor royalty and groovy aristos to film stars, couturiers and gangsters. The mode of publication also hints at a new democratization. The printing is of lovely quality but photomechanical which meant the cost could be kept down to just three guineas.

        Half-Life

Cambridge, Mass.: Lowell-Adams House Printers, 1965. 1 pp. broadside, folio, 450 x 295 mm, printed on recto only. Protective folder, the whole housed in a custom-made folding box, leather title label to spine. Slight age-toning, unobtrusive tape residue to lower edge, two small staple punctures to top left corner, pinhole to bottom left. Illustration above poem by Laurence Scott, signed by him: 'Scott XI/65 For M.J.Smith'. First edition, No. 68 of 75 copies, SIGNED BY BOTH AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR AT THEIR RESPECTIVE CONTRIBUTIONS. First appearance of this poem in this form, 'Revised from an old note-book, c. 1931', according to a printed note beneath its appearance here -- although it had been revised once before prior to this printing, a very different version having appeared in 1935 in Cambridge Left bearing the title Interview. The Lowell-Adams House Printers were a group of Harvard students who during the 1960s produced a number of finely hand-printed broadsides and slim volumes, in limited editions. Often illustrated, their output featured an eclectic list of literary heavyweights both dead and alive, among them Oscar Wilde, Marianne Moore, Jack Kerouac, Lewis Carroll, John Updike, Noel Coward -- and this scarcity by Auden. Not all copies we have examined of this broadside are signed by both contributors, and some are additionally inscribed by one or the other. This copy was signed by both, with Scott dating his signature 'XI/65' and adding the inscription 'For M.J.Smith'. A very attractive copy, housed in a custom-made folding box. Bloomfield A-51
