Bon

The Man With the Golden Gun (a James Bond novel).

London: Jonathan Cape, 1965 .. [actually issued late 1964] Pp.221. PROOF copy in publisher's wraps, in the Proof-Only dust-jacket. The jacket features some misprints and typographical or textual differences, most prominently the title and author's name being printed across the spine in bold black tea-chest type, which was removed for the published edition at the request of the illustrator Richard Chopping. The book is fine, but for some spine roll. Jacket has some expected wear and tear to the unsupported area along the top edge and the joints are a little rubbed. Nonetheless, a very good copy of an uncommon item., housed in a custom-made clamshell box

        Midnight Cowboy.

New York: Simon and Schuster,, 1965. Octavo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine gilt, top edge green. With the dust jacket. Housed in a custom quarter blue morocco solander box. Tips worn, covers and spine panel dampstained at head and foot; the jacket a little sunned with some nicks and light creases. First edition, first printing. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author to his old friend American author William Goyen on the front free endpaper: "For Bill - affection and admiration, always. Jim Herlihy. July 7 [9?], 1965. New York." With Goyen's ownership signature to the head of the front free endpaper. In the early 1960s Goyen started working with members of the Actors Studio, and he and Herlihy were involved with the invitation-only Playwrights and Directors Unit, along with Edward Albee, James Baldwin, and Norman Mailer. Goyen described it as "a group of novelists and short story writers with theatrical ambitions" (Davis, p. 213). The book was the basis for the triple Academy Award-winning 1969 film starring Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman. The only X-rated movie ever to win Best Picture. From the library of Don Drapkin, with his bookplate to the front pastedown. Drapkin's collection was noted for its strength in film related titles, that he retained this copy despite it's somewhat compromised condition is suggestive of the pleasure he took in the excellent association.

[Photographie originale] Flèche signalétique au sol, ca 1965

1965aucune reliure 25,3 x 17,4 cm. Circa 1965.
