2 PRESS PHOTOGRAPHS OF MARTIN LUTHER KING AT THE MARCH ON WASHINGTON, AUGUST 1963

Life Magazine, 1963. 8” x 10”. 2 fantastic contemporary prints of King delivering his iconic speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial at the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963. Francis Miller was a longtime staff photographer for Time and Life Magazines. 8 x 10 prints with images nearly filling the print; each print has publisher and copyright information stamped and handwritten on the back. A manuscript note also indicates that one photograph was used in “This is Man” published by Silver Burdett in 1972. Miller's eye for the photograph is truly astonishing, one image catching King looking straight into the camera while spectators crowded under the podium sit mesmerized, pensive. Certainly among the most important moments in the long road to the Civil Right Act.
