[Attributes: Soft Cover]

Memoirs: Year of Decisions and Memoirs: Years of Trial and Hope 1946-1952.

Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Company, 1955-56. First editions of the memoirs of President Harry S. Truman. Octavo, two volumes, original black cloth, blue topstain. Inscribed by the author in both volumes one and two, "To Edward I. Wolf D.D.S. Kind regards Harry S Truman 3/28/58." Both volumes are near fine with a contemporary inscription in near fine dust jackets with light wear. Jacket design by Sidney Butchkes. Jacket photograph by Eliot Elisofon. Uncommon and desirable signed in both volumes. "Truman's Memoirs are an invaluable record of the former president's tumultuous years in office, his early days in Missouri, and his rise in local and state politics. There are delightful glimpses of his family life, striking appraisals and anecdotes of world leaders such as Churchill, Stalin, Chiang and De Gaulle, and candid disclosures about the background of national and international events. But overshadowing all is the story of the glorious task of bringing a war to an end, of working for an enduring peace and leading the free world into a new age" (Doubleday).

        The Road Not Taken

New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1955 New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1955. First edition, third printing. Inscribed by Frost to English actor Denys Blakelock on front free endpaper in Bread Loaf, VT, dated 1856. Introduction and commentary by Louis Untermeyer, illustrations by John O'Hara Cosgrove II. Publisher's green cloth, stamped with Cosgrove's illustration to front board in white, lettered in white to spine, top edge stained green, in original unclipped dust jacket. A very good copy with some light sunning to top edge and a touch of wear to extremities, text block edges lightly toned, dust jacket with some wear and loss to corners and spine ends as well as sunning to spine. Overall, a pleasing copy. From the library of Pulitzer Prize winning author Kenneth Silverman. Actor Denys Blakelock was the author of Portrait of a Farjeon (1966), a memoir of Frost's friend and fellow poet, Eleanor Farjeon, who died in 1965. Frost inscribed this copy to Blakelock in Bread Loaf, Vermont, where the poet taught English at Middlebury College at the time. This collection of Frost's most famous and well-loved poems was compiled by Louis Untermeyer, who introduces the work with a brief biography of Frost. Throughout the volume, Untermeyer's sparse commentary adds to the context and meaning of Frost's poetry with brief statements and discussions of various pieces as they appear. Pieces selected for this work include the title poem, "The Road Not Taken," and other notable works such as "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening," and "Nothing Gold Can Stay." Chiefly a biographer, Professor Kenneth Silverman co-directed the American Civilization program at NYU, and won not only the Pulitzer but also the Bancroft Prize for his work The Life and Times of Cotton Mather. Other notable works of his include biographies of Edgar Allan Poe and Samuel F. B. Morse. A magician himself, he also profiled the life of Harry Houdini. . Inscribed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Dust Jacket.

        THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY

New York: Coward-McCann. 1955 - First edition, first printing. An association copy, inscribed by the author. Publisher’s original black cloth with titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. An excellent very near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout and without previous owner’s inscriptions or stamps. Faint crease to a single page corner. Complete with the near fine original dustwrapper which is ever so lightly faded to the spine. Not price-clipped ($3.00 to the upper right corner of the front flap). A lovely example, rare in inscribed association state. Inscribed by the author in black ink on the title page "For Caroline + Otto [Penzler] / Patricia Highsmith / 24th Oct. 1986". A fabulous association copy, from the author to her editor and US publisher Otto Penzler (who published the first US edition of several short story collections under the Penzler Books and Mysterious Press imprints). Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
