1955 28,9 x 23,5 cm. In Passepartout montiert (PP: 42 x 32 cm). K2 Italia. Serie Fotografico.’ A complete set of lobby cards with two posters for the film of the 1954 Italian Expedition which made the first ascent, directed by Marcello Baldi.

Firenze: Zincografica, [1955] - A large envelope, containing 10 lobby cards, each with a photographic scene from the expedition, approx. 48 x 34 cm., together with two posters for the film, each approx. 68 x 48 cm., one or two short marginal tears, one poster slightly browned to verso and with a few tape repairs, overall in very good condition, the envelope slightly worn. K2 was first climbed by the Italians Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli in 1954. A film of the expedition was made by Marcello Baldi for the Club Alpino Italiano, based on footage by Mario Fantin. These large format lobby cards would have been used in cinemas to advertise Baldi’s film. It seems unlikely that complete sets would have survived in large quantities, particularly in the original envelope in which they were distributed. [Attributes: First Edition]

        Nightmare in Red China.

No date. Ca. 1955. - Color original poster, CROPPED to edge of image at left and lower edges (27 x 41 inches), folding to 13 3/4 x 10 1/4 inches. Multiple pinholes in image, light soiling, pinhole in each corner, some edge wear and small separations at folds. Movie poster for the 1955 film, the English version of an Indian film "Presented by Lloyd Friedgen and Rajkamal Kalamandir Studio", which was produced at the height of anti-Communism in the West. An Indian doctor aids a band of anti-Communist guerillas in China, and works against the development of germ warfare by Communist doctors. The huge hypodermic needle being wielded in the image at lower right of the poster hints at the tenor of the movie: "Swooping down from the North they created a brutal reign of terror! There were 5,000,000 innocent victims in the shame story of our time!"

THE VESTAL LADY ON BRATTLE AND OTHER POEMS

Cambridge, Mass: Richard Brukenfeld, 1955. First Edition. Paperback. Very Good. Scarce first edition of Corso's first book in staple-bound wraps with white covers titled in black and blue on front and priced "one dollar" in black on back. Sunning and light staining as is common for this edition. A small tear to top front of spine with perhaps 1/8 inch piece of cover paper missing with an adjacent closed tear of about 1/2 inch. Some very light rubbing to spine edges but generally an uncommonly well preserved cover. Text block is clean and tight with just two very small blemishes, one appears to be a little printer's ink offsetting, the other a tiny ink spot. A very desirable copy of Corso's first book, the production expenses of which were underwritten by students at Harvard and Radcliffe. (500 were printed but the poet is said to have stated that he only received 250, the other copies having been lost in the mail.) "The poems featured in the volume are usually considered apprentice works heavily indebted to Corso's reading. They are, however, unique in their innovative use of jazz rhythms most notably in "Requiem for 'Bird' Parker, Musician," which many call the strongest poem in the book's cadences of spoken English, and hipster jargon." (Poetry Foundation). Undoubtedly one of the giants of the San Francisco Poets of the "Beat Generation" Corso was born in New York City in 1931 and died in Minnesota in January 2001.
