[Turkey, between -1953]. 1950 - Black and white photograph with added original manuscript colour (longer old repaired tears, otherwise in a good condition), 45 x 65 cm. A large, originally hand-coloured photograph with a map of Asia, centred on Korea, was made in the early 1950s in Turkey, to commemorate a member of the Turkish Brigade, fighting in the Korean War. A large, unusual photomontage and hand retouched photograph shows a map of Korea, China, Japan, and a part of Siberia, a female figure, a personification of Turkey, wearing a Turkish flag, a torch and a sign Yurtta sulh, cihanda sulh [Peace at Home, Peace in the World], a portrait of a Turkish soldier and an image of a fighting soldier. The photograph was made between 1950-1953, when the Turkish Brigade, with a code name North Star, served with the United Nations Command during the Korean War. The Turkish Army joined the Korean War as a proof of their loyalty to NATO, just before joining it in 1952. Over the course of Korean War Turkey circulated almost 15,000 troops through the country, of which no more than 5,000 troops were present at anyone time. Although the Turkish soldiers proved to be good, stubborn and loyal fighters, there was a large language barrier with other soldiers, as most of the Turks, including their leaders, did not speak a word of English, what resulted in many misunderstandings and unnecessary casualties. The losses for the Turkish Brigade in Korea was 721 killed in action, 2,111 wounded and 168 missing. The phrase Yurtta sulh, cihanda sulh (Peace at Home, Peace in the World) was first pronou … [Click Below for Full Description]

Federico Patellani
1950. Original vintage gelatin silver baryte photo unmounted. Smaltatura lucida. Author: Federico Patellani - Milano. In good condition (see scan). Photo size: 19,5x26,7 cm. [Click Below for Full Description]

Lovelace, Maud Hart
Crowell, New York NY 1950 - A lovely copy signed by Maud Hart Lovelace without inscription. First published in 1950, this particular copy was printed in the early 1950s; no printing is stated, but "Trees Kneel at Christmas," published in 1951, is not listed with the author's other titles, nor is "Betsy and the Great World," published in 1952. It is bound pinkish brown cloth. This is a beautiful vintage copy, very clean, pages crisp and bright with a brief non-authorial gift inscription on the free front endpaper. The book is signed "Maud Hart Lovelace" on the title page--and fans of Betsy in Spite of Herself will appreciate that Maud signed the book using green ink! Mississippi, 1950. Oblong quarto. String-tied brown leather over paper boards with an illustration on the cover measuring 13" x 10". A collection of 140 black and white and one color photographs most measuring 3.5" x 5.5" with a few 8" x 10", with captions. Very good minus with spotting, wear on the edges, tears, and a few missing photos. An extensively captioned photo album from a boat cruise on the Mississippi up to the mouth of the Ohio river during the 1950s via the Union Barge Line. Every page includes a detailed description of the sites such as, "the smallest park in the world where Father Hennepin first saw the St. Anthony Falls," next to a photograph of Lucy Wilder Morris Park. Under a photo of the captain is says, "he gave us a lot of information about 'Old Man River.'" The banks of the Mississippi are carefully cataloged, construction, damns, and bridges all documented. The trip took the tourists up to the mouth of the Ohio River which can be seen here. "At a bend in the Ohio River where we could see a long view up stream, the tower dam waking, it's more like a long lake than a live river. It was fascinating." A complete and well organized documenting the Mississippi and it's landscape. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

HEYERDAHL, Thor.
Chicago: Rand McNally & Company, 1950 - Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, blind-stamped design to front cover. With the dust jacket. An excellent copy in the dust jacket, spine panel lightly faded, extremities very slightly chipped. With 20 leaves of photographic plates. First US edition, originally published in Norway in 1948. The Kon-Tiki expedition was undertaken by the explorer Thor Heyerdahl to prove that Polynesia was settled from South America by a mixed race who travelled by raft. Their replica raft, named after the Incan sun god Kon-Tiki, was wrecked on a reef 98 days later. "A dramatic, designedly primitive, and adventure-filled voyage, this was the prototype for other voyages designed to prove various things about ancient people and voyages" (Toy). As the author observes, the trip proved that the journey by raft was possible, even if it does not irrefutably prove that it was by this means that the Pacific islands were settled. His account has since become a classic, and the raft is now preserved in the Kon-Tiki museum of Oslo. Lyon's translation was also published the same year in Britain by Allen & Unwin, without known primacy. With a tipped in 16 page magazine special feature on the voyage. Toy, A Nautical Bibliography, 646. [Attributes: First Edition]

Eugenio Bronzetti
Large original vintage gelatin silver photo unmounted. 1950c. Author: Eugenio Bronzetti - Palermo (ink stamp on the back). Size of the photo: 24x17 cm. In very good condition, excellent (see scan). One last heist awaits, and decisions have to be made. A striking poster from the classic noir cycle, a film completed in 1948 but not released until 1950. 27 x 41 inches (105 x 89 cm), linen-backed. Dumoulin, Edmond (?)
Manuskript by Studiengesellschaft, [Wien?], 1950. 12mos. 97pp. + 96pp. An erotic novel featuring flagellation. The beginning of the text corresponds neatly with the lesbian flagellation novel, attributed to Edmond Dumoulin, originally published by A. Brancart at Amsterdam in 1889, and published in English as The Callipyges by Collectors Publications in 1967 (likely a reprint of the 1957 Pall Mall Press edition) and The Cult of Pain by Brandon House (these volumes were at hand and used for reference). However, this version runs shorter, and the original chapter divisions are not respected. It would appear that this is reworked from the original, preserving the characters (Mrs. Skin-Tear, Mrs. Flog, Mrs. Whipping, Lady X, Lily, Margaret, Morena, Jenny, the Lioness [Löwin] et al) and with many of the scenes retold or resequenced into a continuous narrative. (For example, the book ends on a somewhat tender note, describing Jenny's buttocks in a passage from the middle of Chapter 7, while the three hussars whose activities end the same chapter make their appearance earlier on in the episode). Ruten Girl continues where a scene from Ruten - Club (Chapter 4 of the original) breaks off, so despite the change in title, the volume numbers (I and II) are consistent with the story. Text printed in aniline purple ink (via spirit duplication) on one side of the page only. There are blank pages inserted at pages 20, 40, 60, and 80; there is no interruption or loss of text. Covers and title page state 'Manuskript by Studiengesellschaft'. Format of these books consistent with another work s … [Click Below for Full Description]
