CASE OF THE ONE-EYED WITNESS (Intimately Inscribed)

New York: William Morrow, 1950. Gardner, Erle Stanley. THE CASE OF THE ONE-EYED WITNESS. New York: William Morrow, (1950). First Edition. A FINE bright copy (one small pinhole scuff to front board) in a NEAR FINE priced dust jacket (trifling edge wear, tiny bit a staining to the top edge which just barely affects the inside flaps). Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "To Tee Rose, who has a swell brand of ink in her typewriter ribbon but doesn't use it enough. With love, yours, Erle." Underneath this he has written his full name: "Erle Stanley Gardner/ Oct 1950." Not much is known of the recipient as yet, other than she did write a story for Argosy Magazine in the late 1940s that appeared in the same issue as one of Gardner's. Erle Stanley Gardner occasionally signed copies of his books for friends and people he worked with but rarely did he inscribe a book so intimately. See our other copies from the same primary source by using key words Tee Rose.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Fine/Near Fine.

        Transparent Traitor

London - Macdonald and Co, 1950 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. First edition. A scarce first edition of this crime novel by Francis Gerard. 'Sir Digby Vane-Torrington, the great actor-manager, had made too many enemies for the good of any one man. He had a bad reputation with women, and he detested his own sons. When after his retirement he decided to give a private performance of Romeo and Juliet, he invited all the London critics and numerous other notabilities, including Sir John Meredith. It was a sensational evening, from the rise of the curtain to the shot which followed its fall. This is one of Francis Gerard's most unusual tales, for the issue is not so much one of 'who did the murder' as 'why and how did the victim come to fill his role' It is top-grade story-telling from beginning to end'. Cover design by Stein. Condition: In a cloth covered binding. Externally, smart and bright with very slight fading at head and tail of spine. Dustwrapper is generally clean with slight curling. A number of small closed tears have been repaired with tape on the reverse, and the dustwrapper is protected with Brodart wraps. Internally, firmly bound, bright and generally clean. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED with a VERY GOOD dustwrapper.

Louisa (Original screenplay for the 1950 film)

Universal City, CA: Universal Pictures, 1950. Clothbound presentation copy of the Revised Final Screenplay (along with many other working materials) for the 1950 film, "Louisa," belonging to script supervisor Dorothy Hughes. Directed by Alexander Hall, written for the screen by Stanley Roberts, and starring Ronald Reagan, Charles Coburn, Edmund Gwenn, Piper Laurie, Spring Byington, and Martin Milner. & & Allmovie Guide: "Spring plays Reagan's widowed mother, who is outwardly satisfied with her lot but inwardly lonely. Enter Coburn and Gwenn, who vie for Spring's attentions. Uptight Ronnie disapproves of his mother's dalliances, and has additional problems with his spunky daughter (Piper Laurie), who has just begun dating. Spring Byington and Charles Coburn worked so well together in 'Louisa' that plans were made to star them in a weekly television series. The project never sold, but Spring would star in a similar sitcom, 'December Bride,' from 1954 through 1959." Included here are the shooting script, shooting schedule, actor profiles (with multiple black-and-white Polaroid shots of each of the principals, in costume, affixed to each page), cast list with contact information, a list of department heads, and the continuity breakdown. Every page of the shooting script is profusely annotated with the script supervisor's markings, with tabs affixed at the fore-edge to indicate the various sections of the film. & & Green cloth, with the film's original title and Dorothy Hughes' name both in gilt on the front board and spine. Title page present, with a holograph notation of "1950" and credits for Roberts as the screenwriter. 130 pages, white pages with a few blue revision pages throughout, dated variously between 1/30/1950 and 2/30/1950. Pages Very Good or better, cloth binding Very Good plus. Nominated for both an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award.         De Rousseau à Jean-Jacques *

Mermod, Lausanne 9.1950.
