Superb association copy of Anderson's hard-hitting play, inscribed to Bella Muni, whose husband Paul Muni starred in the Broadway play version of Key Largo, which ran for 105 performances at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre between November 27, 1939 and February 24, 1940. Basis for John Huston's Oscar-winning film noir (1948), starring Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Edward G. Robinson, and Lionel Barrymore. The Dark Page, Vol.1, pp.8-9. Hugues Rebell - Henriette Bellair - Gérard-Gailly
New York: Viking, 1939. SEE DETAILED DESCRIPTION BELOW. STEINBECK, JOHN. Original Publisher's Advertising Poster for The Grapes of Wrath. New York: Viking Press, 1939. Original advertising poster issued by the Viking Press as for display in bookstores to promote the original publication of The Grapes of Wrath. The poster's lettering announces "John Steinbeck's New Novel". Illustrated with a reproduction of the now classic original dust jacket art by Elmer Hader, 12-1/4 x 18-1/4 inches, a much larger form than that of the issued jacket image. Overall 22 x 18-1/4 inches. Some very unobtrusive light spotting; minor use at edges with a slight bump to the lower left corner; but unfaded and unchipped. Would be most attractive framed. An excellent literary poster, which was rarely preserved.

Sauk City, WI, Arkham House, 1939. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good copy of the first book from Arkham House, a highlight of Arkham collecting and modern speculative fiction. An important book, and a catalyst for the subsequent decades of Lovecraft study and influence. Lovecraft was an influence on not just the genre of the weird and horror, but further afield to literature in general from Borges to Philip K. Dick. His influence and influencers has been the subject of a book in itself. Without Arkham house, and particularly the present title, the landscape would've been much changed. One of only 1200 published copies. Gathers together many now well-known works including Dagon, At the Mountains of Madness, The Call of Cthulhu , The Shadow over Innsmouth, Polaris and The Haunter of the Dark. A key work. The book itself is in very good condition. The jacket has chipping and wear to the fore corners, and one triangular puncture near the head of the spine, mostly closed. One short tear nearby. Some wear to the lower spine tip. The book is in very nice shape, nothing to comment on regarding condition other than the ownership signature of Paul Spencer to the front paste-down. Spencer was a writer and editor himself and collaborated with David Keller. Spencer went on to edit the James Branch Cabell journal Kalki. A very presentable copy of a landmark work. Offered in after-market slipcase. Cover art by Virgil Finlay [6505, Hyraxia Books].All items will be packed in bubble-wrap and either a cardboard book-wrap or a box where appropriate. Dower, L
Willam Blackwood. First. Hardcover. 263 pp, ill, Dower, L. EPIC FAILURE 1939 London 263 pp, ill. Safari in Kenya and Tanganyika. For a mainly photographic safari this is good reading. They shot their own trophies to use as bait and then had to figure out how to set up the bait to attract the lions and leopards in the best possible angles. They had numerous encounters with lion, elephant, rhino and also buffalo and of course the plains game which they shot regularly. After the safari, it was discovered that much of the film was bad and many photos did not come out, hence the title. Will be enjoyed by anyone thinking of taking an adventurous photo safari. Lovely copy, signed by the author, bound in half leather, highly decorated in gilt with raised spine bands. Near Fine. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]

Manly P. Hall
Philosophers Press, 1939. This is quite possibly the rarest of Manly Palmer Hall collectibles out there. There have been other limited editions produced by MPH over his career, but those were limited to 250, 500, and up. This here is an Author's Edition that is signed, however not numbered. One could only imagine that Mr. Hall had these made for his friends and seekers of the truth and light; presumably given by him personally. I will pay for insurance and certified mail - as in signing for the package, if you wouldn't mind paying for the cost of shipping, as eBay takes about 20% to sell here, and PayPal takes 4.35% This is my most coveted book of Manly Hall's in my collection. I'm testing the waters with it, at a price I find both fair market, and reasonable enough for me to part with it. There are some condition issues with this 80 year old book: some bumping to the corners, minor shelf wear, detachment and/or deterioration at top spine (seen in photo), and some cracking inside at the binding (seen in photo). Binding is intact, pages and foldout photo are clean, some minor pencil notation here and there (seen in photo). All in all a fine specimen of a book I have only seen once. Perhaps, this is a ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. I will review and consider all reasonable offers. There are a handful of us serious collectors of Manly Palmer Hall out there, so get it whilst it is available, as it may sell fast, or I may reconsider putting it out on the market. Thanks for looking and reading the description! Cheers, Thomas. [Att … [Click Below for Full Description]
