Sutnar, Ladislav
Original-Ausgabe. - Hervorragend erhaltenes Exemplar.

CHRISTIE, AGATHA.
London: Collins, 1939. First Edition. Bookplate; light foxing and cloth fading; very good plus in a very good dust jacket with some tears and chips, the most serious of which is a triangular fingernail-sized one at the top of the front panel. A highly politically incorrect title even when published; the dust jacket compounded the sin with its illustration of little black figures with big white lips. The book was published in America as And Then There Were None, and re-issued as Ten Little Indians, presenting problems of its own today. In any event, not only was this one of the author's best books, it was also made into one of the best films based on her books, starring Walter Huston and Barry Fitzgerald. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]

Weinbaum, Stanley
New York: Ziff-Davis, 1939. First Edition. Octavo. 262p. When the publisher's blurb boldly stated that this work "far surpassed the best of science fiction", it would seem a rather ambitious note. However, Lovecraft already considered him a "master in the genre". He stated that Weinbaum's writing was ingenious, and he stood miles above the other Pulp Fiction writers in his creation of genuinely alien world. Frederik Pohl wrote that before Weinbaum sciene fiction aliens were in some form men whether catman, antmen, lizard-men, or rockmen but they were always men, Weinbaum changed that he transformed the imagery into creatures that transcended the older conceptions. Bound in blue cloth lettered in dark blue, minute bump to one corner. A lovely copy, fresh in nearly fine dust jacket with slight rubbing along adges and spine ends. A superb copy with no names or bookplates. (see also Brian Stableford, Outside the Human Aquarium: Masters of Science Fiction, p. 129ff.).

The artist of this piece, Louis Bassi Siegriest, was part of the "Society Six of California Colorists" and gained high acclaim for his work as a poster artist for the WPA. Animated by the use of bright blue, red and yellow colors the Native American motif he printed here is a fine tribute to American art and the WPA. Three copies found at Yale, California Historical Society and the Library of Congress as of February 2018. .

Zinneman, Fred (director)
MGM 1939 - Vintage original 27 x 41" (68 x 102 cm.) one sheet poster, USA. Tom Neal, Jo Ann Sayers, Arthur Hohl, Truman Bradley, Clem Bevans, dir: Fred Zinnemann; MGM. MGM had their star making process well-assembled by 1939, and this applied to directors as well as all other creative jobs at the studio. Up-and-coming directors cut their teeth on the short films which would fill out the bill for an evening in the theatre, with newsreels, cartoons and the feature. Academy Award-winning director Fred Zinnemann proved himself competent by making a long list of shorts between 1937 and 1942. Amongst the shorts series at MGM were the CRIME DOES NOT PAY entries. This story concerned the corruption involved in exploiting unskilled labor. Tom Neal would spend years in shorts and playing supporting roles until 1945, when he landed the lead in the top noir DETOUR. He is the character at the right on the poster. On linen, NEAR FINE.
