        World in Debt

, 1936. 1936. TILDEN, Freeman. A World in Debt. New York and London: Funk & Wagnalls, 1936. Octavo, original beige cloth, original dust jacket. $1600.Early edition of Tilden's groundbreaking world explaining the dark relationship between credit and debt and relating debt to disastrous monetary policies. In this world, Tilden stands virtually alone in the economic community of his time, pointing not just at debt, but at credit and the perils of not recognizing credit as conceptually identical to debt. Tilden argues that the doorway opened by credit let in the world-destroying debt that in turn led to the national ruin of the Great Depression. Those who wish to understand economic growth, monetary policies, and the politics that stem from both would be well-served to read Tilden's work as a means of better understanding credit and debt and the misconceptions that continue to lead their countries in the wrong directions. The first edition was published in 1935; this is an early edition without a ""First published"" statement on the copyright page. Book fine, dust jacket with only light wear and soiling. A near-fine copy.

Ljubljana: Bibliofilska zaloz_ba . 1936 - 4°, 150 pp. with 146 original linocuts and woodcuts on folded pages, inserted one folded rice paper page, original black and white wrappers illustrated with a woodcut and linocut, originally bound with white string, protected with original tan illustrated linen covers, bound together with brown strings (Very Good, linen covers and paper wrappers slightly age-toned on edges and on the spine). ORIGINAL ARTWORK, SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR: A highly decorative book with original lino- and woodcuts in Art-Deco style by a Slovenian academic artist Miha Males (1903-1987), was published in 300 examples (this one numbered with 277). The introduction with a short descriptions of linocut and wood cut printing, if followed by 130 original artworks, printed on thick folded paper and dated between 1920 and 1935. Miha Males was schooled at art academies in Zagreb, Vienna and Prague, where he graduated in 1927. Influenced by the Prague art movement, he wanted to lift the art of printing on the level of painting. He founded the first Bibliophile Publishing House in Slovenia, where he was publishing original artwork, among others this book, Sence. Although a prominent artist in the post WWII era, exhibiting worldwide, his finest work is considered to be this period of late 1920s and 1930s, which was interrupted by WWII. We could only trace one example outside Slovenia (Harvard Fine Arts Library).

Octavo, modern full burgundy cloth gilt. $3200.First separate edition of GoddardÂ’s research on rocket fuel, containing “the first public mention of his historic 1926 liquid-fueled rocket launch” (Ciancone 85), with 11 pages of black-and-white photographs. On March 16, 1926, Goddard ""flew the world's first liquid propellant rocket from a site near Auburn, Massachusetts. The ten-foot rocket, with the engine mounted on the nose, reached an altitude of 41 feet, traveled 184 feet over the ground, and landed 2.5 seconds after lift-offÂ… Fearful that his ideas would be stolen by unscrupulous rivals, Goddard refused to share the details of his technology with other experimenters.         John Wisden's Cricketers' Almanack for 1936 - 1936 Wisden Original Hardback

1936. Hi, This lot is a 1936 Original Hardback Wisden in Very Good Condition, excellent for the year. It also had the added bonus of being a presentation copy, signed by WH Brookes (Editor) to future editor Norman Preston which makes the book very unique. Wisden chaaged materials in 1933 and the quality of the books suffered as a result, hence why 1933-1936 seem a lot more faded than the early 1920s Hardbacks. The gilt to the front and spine is ever so slightly fading as per the year and the boards are dulled, this book however is a lot better than an average 1936. Odd mark to the boards. Internally it is a nice and bright book, very yellow pastedowns and titlepage and clean inside. The hinges are strong. Old address sticker to the first page and removable post-it-note stating the endorsement. The previous owner had a bat bookmark inserted loosly froma paperback. Internally very good without restoration with an excellent photoplate.

The Bride of Frankenstein (sequel to the movie, Frankenstein).

Queensway Press 1936 - Rare First (?) Edition. Not dated on title page but published in 1936. Not in British Library who hold the Readers Library edition. This novelization of the 1935 movie sequel to Frankenstein (1931) is said to be one of the best horror movies of all time. The working title of this film was The Return of Frankenstein and starred Boris Karloff and Elsa Lanchester. The cheap cased binding is in poor condition discoloured and stained but the contents is Very Good: clean throughout on soft white paper with no inscriptions. The front recto endpaper is present as is the half-title, so the 252 page text block is complete with just slight spotting to edges and dusty top edge. So, I would suggest that this would make an excellent re-binding project (perhaps using the famous movie poster?) which with imagination could make a highly attractive looking book whilst maintaining its collectable and rare status.
