Bruno, Antonio]
[Catania], s. n. (Tip. Sorace e Siracusa), 1929, settembre, Edizione originale. [Click Below for Full Description]

With the Arthur Hawkins designed dust jacket. Spine minimally rolled, touch of wear to spine ends and bottom edge, faint toning to fore edge; else a near-fine copy in the remarkably bright jacket with sunned spine and a couple of tiny chips to spine ends and tips. First edition, first printing. Sartoris is a revised version of Faulkner's Flags in the Dust, the full text of which was not published until 1973. It was the first of Faulkner's tales set in Yoknapatawpha County, and introduces many of the characters that appear in his later works. Due to the fragile paper stock used for the dust jacket copies in such good condition are notably uncommon.

A typed letter signed “Jackie XO” on embossed “The White House” letterhead. She wrote to Michel Bouvier, her cousin, about a Christmas gift for her daughter Caroline: “The French fairy tale you sent to Caroline was too beautiful to be true. Even if it were in Arabic it would be the greatest delight to any child and I do believe you have at last discovered the easiest way for her to learn French. Frederic Prokosch
Hastings-on-Hudson: Self-published. Condition: Very Good binding / Signed. Poems, divided into four sections: Amores, Elegies; Pastorals and Sonnets; a bound typescript consisting of 41 unnumbered leaves. "This edition of these poems was made in the Summer of 1929. It is limited to 4 copies, numbered and signed by the author, this being no. 4". The title page has a drawing of a stylized willow tree in red pen; there are a couple of corrections in pen, presumably by Prokosch. A true rarity by this rather elusive and mysterious literary figure (and forger of some of his own productions -- the so-called "Butterfly Books"): "All the facts in Who's Who, or whatever, are so utterly meaningless. .. my real life have been subversive, anarchic, vicious, lonely and capricious" [see Robert Greenfield, Dreamer's Journey: The Life and Writings of Frederick Prokosch (2010), p. 17]. Bound by Prokosch, rather rudimentarily, in marbled boards backed in blue cloth with a hand-lettered paper label; the hinges have been discreetly reinforced. Of the four copies, we locate one at the Beinecke Library, and one copy at UCLA. [Attributes: Signed Copy]

Uttley, Alison
London: William Heinemann Ltd, 1929. First printing of Alison Uttley's first book-the first title in the Little Grey Rabbit Series. Hinges intact. Somewhat above-average wear externally. We presume backstrip is missing as prior owner has neatly covered spine with tape which closely matches boards in colour. Few minor pencil marks mostly erased from endpapers. Several minor perforations to front free endpaper, first blank leaf, and half-title page, as if by a kitten's tiny claws. Corresponding indentations to title page and following page. One inch chip from lower corner of page 19. Half-inch tear to top edge of page 56. Two small chips from lower corner of page 107. Two-inch tear to lower fore-edge of back free endpaper. Good. Milne, A. A. (Alan Alexander); Grahame, Kenneth
London: Methuen & Co, 1929 Limited edition of 200 copies printed on handmade paper and signed by the authors to the limitation page, this copy being number 135. Publisher's quarter pale blue cloth and white paper-covered boards, white paper title label to front board. A very good copy, boards slightly bowed and with some soiling, light wear and toning to extremities, interior very clean. Overall, a handsome copy with the two author's signatures. Toad of Toad Hall is the first adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's The Wind in the Willows (1908) into a play. Milne, a great admirer of Grahame's children's literature and The Wind in the Willows in particular, selected parts of the original text - mainly the adventures of the titular character, Mr. Toad - which he thought would be best adapted to the stage. He admits, however, in his introduction that this meant he "left out all the best parts of the book" which "for that, if he has any knowledge of the theatre, Mr. Grahame will thank me." Toad of Toad Hall, which included six songs by Harold Fraser-Simon, was first performed at the Lyric Theatre in London on December 17, 1929.. Signed by Authors. Hard Cover. Very Good. Moscow: Мосгоркино (Mosgorkino), 1929. First edition. Hardcover. g- to g+. Oblong octavo. 171 loose silver gelatin prints housed in a black- and blind-lettered burgundy cloth portfolio, with string ties. Title pasted on back flap. Extremely rare collection of 171 original photographs (out of 250*) exploring the life and the works of Vladimir Lenin, the founder of the Russian Communist Party, as well as the leader of the Bolshevik Revolution and the architect and first head of the Soviet Union (the name of the communist Russian state from 1922 to 1991). This collection of photographs includes numerous early examples of Constructivist photomontages. They provide a striking pictorial account of the formative years of one of the 20th century's most seminal figures, and feature people important in Lenin's life (Stalin, Litvin, Gusev, Molotov, Nikitin, etc..), as well as places where he used to live while in exile (Siberia, Paris, Finland). Also includes a photograph of Lenin's signature, as well as photographs of his publications (Iskra, Pravda) and excerpts from his works ("The Development of Capitalism in Russia," "What Is to Be Done?," "Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism," "The State and Revolution"). The size of the photographs slightly varies, but each measures appr. 6 3/4 x 4 6/8". Moderate soiling along edges of portfolio. Most of the silver gelatin prints have tiny yellow spots (mostly along edges); 15 have closed tears and/or minor chipping along edges, and 10 are partly creased. Captions in Russian. Translated, the inscription reads: "To G. Baturein with deep respect from the author, Kaluga, April 24, 1929, K. Zsiolkovsky". Soft heavy-weight purple paper covers with minor darkening around spine. Overall toning, a few wrinkles, and sporadic pencil inscriptions found in the interior of the booklet. In very good to near fine condition, measuring 5.125" x 6.75". Housed in a full straight grain Morocco box lettered in both English and Cyrillic. Konstantin Zsiolkovsky, the leading rocket scientist and aeronautical theoretician in pre-Revolutionary Russia and the early Soviet Union, wrote over 400 works exploring aspects of space travel and engineering. In 90 published works, Zsiolkovsky theorized about space ships, stations, and colonies, and also designed modifications to trains, planes, balloons, and hovercraft. This booklet discusses plants and animals in space. Zsiolkovsky signed this booklet in 1929 from his home in Kaluga. The scientist lived in a log cabin in the remote village located 120 miles southwest of Moscow for most of his life. The same year, he released a book investigating the use of multistage rockets to facilitate space flight. Still used today, multistage rockets are rockets whose used fuel canisters break off when consumed. [Attributes: Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

ca. 1928-1929. 3 Hefte. 4°.
