[King] "Marion" [Mrs. Alexander Marion Gemmel]; Jessie M. King,
London: Cecil Palmer, n.d. [1929]. Hardcover. With its large format and beautiful color illustrations on every page, this is one of Jessie M. King's most desirable books. The stories are charming, and many impart a gentle moral to the children reading them. For many years there was some uncertainty about the identity of the author, "Marion." Many believed that Jessie M. King was the author because her middle name was Marion. It was finally established by her descendants, however, that the author was Mrs. Alexander (Marion) Gemmel. (B199, Colin White bibliography). The illustrations are exuberant and playful, as befits stories for small children. There are eleven full-page illustrations, with color decorations on each text page. Bound in bright paper covered pictorial boards with title and illustrator in red to front cover and spine. Some wear and rubbing to edges, hinges, and corners but in very good condition with clean, bright interior. Original glassine jacket not present. 56 pages. CHILD/111412. Near Fine.

Geoffrey Chaucer
Oxford: Basil Blackwell, 1929. In very good condition. Some browning (Perhaps light soiling) of several labels and board edges. Slight spotting of exposed top edge of several volumes (not affecting the page margin). There is a short, minor scratch to the front board of volume 2 and a 3/8" slit on the side of the spine on volume 7. Otherwise the set is in fine condition retaining the original replacement labels. Please look closely at all high resolution images before purchasing or making any reasonable offers. SHAKESPEARE HEAD PRESS "The Works of Geoffrey Chaucer" 1928-29 One of 375 Sets, 8 Volumes Canterbury Tales - Volumes 1-3 The Parson's Tale and Minor Poems - Volume 4 Boece, De Consolatione Philosophie - Volume 5 Troilus and Criseyde - Volume 6 The House of Fame - Volume 7 The Romaunt of the Rose - Volume 8 The best of all press book editions of Chaucer - the text, in large type, is infinitely more legible than the Kemscott edition, as well as textually more complete The playful quality of the marginal decorations is on par with Gill's fine work for the Golden Cockerel "Canterbury Tales" although this is a far more colorful set. Original buckram-backed blue paper-covered boards with spine labels Approximately 2000 pages with a series of delightful marginal illustrations, hand colored, in the first four volumes (these were taken from the Ellesmere Ms. of Chaucer, by Hugh Chesterman). The remaining volumes have occasional illuminated title pages and headpieces, mostly similarly hand-colored. John Wisden
This lot is a Set of 9 Hardback Wisdens - 1929 to 1937. In OK Condition, including the hard to find 1934 (Bodyline Wisden). This set would be rated as 6/10 , it is not the best in terms of condition but the books are all steady , as we know 1933 to 1937 tend to be rougher than the other HBs after the change of materials by Wisden. The 1929 has worn boards, the 1932 has some marks to the spine, 1933/5/6 has facsimile spine gilt. 1929 has repaired hinges but all the rest are strong and original. 1934 is in top form, all photoplates present and correct. A steady set for someone looking to pick up most of the 1930s Hardbacks. More details on request. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

California: There is some general wear, I noticed two Adams photos with staining and smudging but others seemed fine. Some foxing and modest flaws, also two front blank pages have several newspaper clippings pasted in, otherwise, nothing major, all together good condition. This is a mixed group of six early Sierra Club Bulletins from 1929 to 1934 that have been bound together. A great deal of rich, interesting material back when the West Coast was so much more natural and wild then it is today. A great record. This is a mixed group. It is bound as a library might but this is NOT an ex-library copy. The following issues are included: Vol. 15 Number 1 (Feb. 1930), Vol. 14 Number 1 (Feb. 1929), Vol.16 Number 1 (Feb. 1931), Vol. 17 Number 1 (Feb 1931), Vol. 18 Number 1 (Feb. 1933) and Vol. 19 Number 3 (June 1934). Of special interest are the many early full-page photos by Ansel Adams. There are a total of 64 full page black and white photos (this includes two front pieces) and also in this volume are two articles by Ansel Adams. For lovers of his work this gives great depth and background. Those photos are mostly accompanying articles and besides Adams there are articles and may other fine photographs by others. But the value is in the early Ansel Adams material. These six Sierra Club Bulletins are from 1929 to 1934. I spotted a copy of his important work: Taos Pueblo, that a rare book dealer in New York has priced at $85,000 and it was published in 1930. It has been bound, as was commonly done, without the covers but it has preserved the work. There is some staining and smudgi … [Click Below for Full Description]

New York: E. P. Dutton & Co, 1929. Unique item which combines a 203 pp book bound in with a box containing cards and money notes. The author, who first published this work in 1912, believed that finance concepts could best be learned in using game scenarios. All cards and bank notes are present including the two "joker" cards and 8 score cards. Evidence of bookplate removal to the inside front pastedown, else a very good example of the book and binding. Bruno, Antonio]
[Catania], s. n. (Tip. Sorace e Siracusa), 1929, settembre, Edizione originale. [Click Below for Full Description]
