THIBAUD, Jacques 1880-1953
Octavo (204 x 138 mm.) 1 measure from an unidentified technical study, being an 8-note staccato pattern in C major, repeated in C-sharp major, both under one downbow, marked "Presto." On an album leaf. Signed and dated "Liège 30 Mai 1921" in black ink. No compositions by the French violinist Thibaud are recorded. "At 13 his precocious talent took him to the Paris Conservatoire... He formed a trio with his brothers, a pianist and a cellist of ability, but it was as the partner of Cortot and Casals in a famous trio, chiefly active from 1930 to 1935, that he is remembered as an ensemble player... Thibaud never retired; he appeared in London when he was over 70 and gave his last concert at Biarritz ten days before he was killed in an air crash on his way to a concert tour in the East Asia." Zweig, Stefan, Schriftsteller (1881-1942)
Salzburg. 2 SS. Gr.-4to.

[Click Below for Full Description]

Chadourne, Louis
Albin Michel, Paris, 1921. A large-paper copy of the first edition of "Terre de Chanaan" WITH CHADOURNE'S EXTENSIVE MANUSCRIPT TREATMENT ("scénario") FOR "LA FORCE ENSEVELIE", an adventure novel that he apparently never completed, and that certainly was never published. ***** The book itself (312 pp) is one of 100 numbered large-paper copies printed on fine Lafuma laid paper. Bound in is the synopsis, an autograph manuscript neatly written out on 9 numbered leaves, for an adventure novel, "La force ensevelie", very much in the style of Conrad. The final leaf is signed by Chadourne. Preceding the manuscript a signed autograph letter from Chadourne to M. Malesi, director of the publishing firm "L'Édition Française Illustrée", in which Chadourne explains why he is submitting the treatment. Laid in is a signed autograph postcard from Chadourne to Malesi, postmarked in early 1919. This was undoubtedly Malesi s copy of "Terre de Chanaan", and he decided to have the manuscript of "La force ensevelie" bound in because of the similarity of the two narratives, both of which were surely composed in 1918. 8vo. Bound in decorated boards with a leather spine label. Original wraps and backstrip preserved. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Tiny traces of wear to extremities of binding, else FINE AND BRIGHT. UNIQUE AND IMPORTANT. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

Communist International].
Hamburg, Verlag der Kommunistischen Internationale, Carl Hoym, 1921. 8vo. 1086 pp. Original half cloth. Top edge red. First German edition of the conference publication, "Protocol of the 3rd Congress of the Communist International". A year after the Second Congress, and only two after the Comintern had been founded, the Third Congress of the Communist International, representing 58 countries, met at Moscow on 22 June 1921. The speeches, here reproduced in full, focused on how the struggle could be transformed into "civil war" when the circumstances were favorable to "openly revolutionary uprisings"; Leon Trotsky played a prominent role. With the Bolshevik revolution under attack in the Russian Civil War and a wave of revolutions across Europe, the Comintern's priority was exporting the October Revolution. - Issued as volume 23 of the "Bibliothek der Kommunistische Internationale". Browned in the margins; front inner hinge weakened; a little worn but good. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

[Irish Constitution]
First Edition. Dublin, Published by the Sationery Office, [1921]. Small Octavo. 34 pages. Stapled, original Softcover / Original printed brochure with the irish flag on the cover. Front and rear brochure with stronger fraying and some tears. Covers overall in poor condition which is common with this extremely scarce publication. Name (and date) of preowner on endpaper. The Irish Free State (Irish: Saorstát Éireann - 6 December 1922 - 29 December 1937) was a state established in 1922 under the Anglo-Irish Treaty of December 1921. That treaty ended the three-year Irish War of Independence between the forces of the self-proclaimed Irish Republic, the Irish Republican Army (IRA), and British Crown forces. The Free State was established as a Dominion of the British Commonwealth of Nations. It comprised 26 of the 32 counties of Ireland. Northern Ireland, which comprised the remaining six counties, exercised its right under the Treaty to opt out of the new state. The Free State government consisted of the Governor-General, the representative of the King, and the Executive Council (cabinet), which replaced both the revolutionary Dáil Government and the Provisional Government set up under the Treaty. W. T. Cosgrave, who had led both of these governments since August 1922, became the first President of the Executive Council (prime minister). The Oireachtas or legislature consisted of Dáil Éireann (the lower house) and Seanad Éireann, also known as the Senate. Members of the Dáil were required to take an Oath of Allegiance to the Constitution of the Free State and to declare fidelity … [Click Below for Full Description]

WARREN G. HARDING
Key political circular from the first-year Republican President written to influence off-year elections in New Mexico and other places. Harding justifies, and praises, the rapid postwar dismantling of America's military by Congress, while backhandedly criticizing the inattention of his predecessor – Woodrow Wilson – to the peacetime transition. "Vast expenditure without proper consideration for results, is the inevitable fruit of war."WARREN G. HARDING.Typed Letter Signed as President, to Senator Joseph Medill McCormick, Washington, D. C., August 29, 1921. With autograph emendations in two different secretarial hands. 8 pp.Partial Transcript"Thank you for your letter of congratulation on the accomplishment of the administration down to date. You have been good enough to speak kindly of the work which the Executive Departments have accomplished, as well as of that which has been done by the Congress. For myself, I feel disposed to emphasize what seem to me the remarkable achievements of the extraordinary session of the Congress. In view of the fact that during the war practically no consideration was given to preparation for the new conditions which would come with the return of peace, and that in the two years after the Armistice there was hardly any more administrative attention to these problems, I cannot but account it a monumental accomplishment which has marked the work of the extraordinary session down to the time of its recess … I am happy to assure you that the administrative departments are now in full sympathy with the program of rigorous a … [Click Below for Full Description]

Rognoni, Angelo
S. l., [1921-1922], Manoscritto autografo originale. [Click Below for Full Description]

Ralph M Pearson
Kansas City: American Bookplate Society, 1921. Condition: Although the folio has some wear, the prints themselves are in near fine condition, a lovely collection of Pearson's bookplates. No. 51 of 250 copies, octavo size, 12 loose pages, signed by the artist. Ralph M. Pearson (1883-1958) was an American printmaker who specialised in etching and created stunning prints of landscapes and the working class; he took a painterly approach to etching, using a variety of marks to capture the spirit of his subjects. During his life, he received awards from the California Society of Etchers and the American Bookplate Society, among many others. He also exhibited at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, showing many of the bookplates in this collection. These twelve bookplates demonstrate Pearson's finesse in the fields of etching and bookplate design; each are signed by the artist in pencil beneath the plate, and arranged chronologically to show the development of Pearson's style, from the pure landscapes of his early bookplates to the pictorial symbolism of his later designs. This collection includes bookplates for Ruth R. Pearson, Florence M. Hendershot, Frank O. Lowden (a Republican politician who served as the 25th Governor of Illinois), Wallace Heckman, Ruth Morris, Leroy Truman Goble, Elizabeth Faulkner, Albert and Margaret De Silver (founding members of the American Civil Liberties Union), Virginie Migeon Swift, Florence Lowden, Irving and Ione Scales, and Thomas Alexander Mellon (of the influential Mellon family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania).
