Frost, Robert
London: David Nutt, 1913. First Edition. First edition, first printing, first issue binding of Frost's first published book. Bound in publisher's bronze pebbled cloth over boards, with titles stamped on the upper board in gilt. Very Good or better, with boards lightly sunned, and lightly worn at the tips. Pages toned, previous owner gift inscription to front free endpaper, and a small edge-tear to the title page. Published while Frost was living in England in hopes of finding a more receptive audience for his poetry, it was accepted by the first publisher he approached. While this book was at the press, Frost met Ezra Pound, who offered to write a review of it, which greatly helped propel Frost's reputation and stature. Pound soon introduced Frost to W. B. Yeats, who considered this book "the best poetry written in America in a long time." A lovely copy of what marks the start of an illustrious career, in which Frost would win four Pulitzer Prizes. One of fewer than 350 copies in first issue binding. Near Fine.

Aa. Vv. (Boccioni, Carrà, Russolo, Balla, Severini, Soffici)
Rotterdamsche Kunstkring (Imprimerie de J. De Jong), 1913. Catalogo originale. Ottimo esemplare. Signed original photograph of Tsar Nicholas II's four daughters Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia, daughters of Nicholas and Alexandra were the most famous princesses of their day, yet signed photographs are extremely rare. Present is the signatures of the four sisters and dated 1916. Great-grandchildren of Queen Victoria, they were the picture of regal elegance but behind their poised exterior each sister had a fascinating and vibrant personality. Olga, on the far right was the first born and known for her independence, sensitivity and studious nature. She assisted in the war effort with administrative duties. To her left sits the youngest, Anastasia, the mischievous troublemaker of the four had a strong personality and was often reprimanded for pulling tricks on the servants. Standing in the middle is Tatiana who was deeply religious, level-headed and a talented nurse for the Red Cross during the Great War. Nicknamed 'fat little bow-wow' by her sisters, Maria, on the left was kind and sweet-natured. As the second youngest she was too young to formally help in war but visited wounded soldiers and played board … [Click Below for Full Description]

1910s TRAVEL PHOTO ARCHIVE)
An album of 189 photographs, mostly of India and China or Japan in the early Twentieth Century. They show local life, architecture, gatherings, the Taj Mahal, a snake charmer, a cremation, elephants, landmarks, animals, local life, the landscape, Asian temples, bridges, city housing, the ocean, and more. There are also images of Europe, including rural towns, country houses, Venetian canals, and churches. Most of the images are printed in sepia tones on cardstock, suggesting that they were purchased rather than developed from a personal camera. It’s likely that these were collected during one or more extended sightseeing trips. Only a few in the back seem to be printed on photographic paper; one of these is dated 1913 on the verso. The images are collected in a new cardboard photo album with cellophane pages. The cardstock images are all in fine condition, while those on photographic paper are in good condition. This collection gives a close-up view of Indian and Asian life in turn-of-the-century, specifically its compelling blend of old traditions and new, western influences. The European images provide picturesque views as well.

Döblin, Alfred
München u. Leipzig, Georg Müller, 1913. 210 S., 1 Bl. 8°, Orig.-Pappbd. (Joseph Adler in: Der Sturm, Jahrg. 4, Nr. 170/71, S. 71.) 1913/14, Beiblatt S. 67.) - Einbandkanten etwas berieben, sonst gut erhaltenes Exemplar. - Raabe/Hannich-B. 58.3. - Huguet 2. - Peitz 2.

Accompanied by the original cover artwork (43x27.75cm.), black ink on cream stock, several losses and a few closed tears to margins, none approaching image, old vertical fold line, stock rather brittle from age and poor quality, else Near Very Good. Quite possibly the earliest iteration of Ralph Chaplin's now-ubiquitous "Sabo-Tabby," the I.W.W.'s black cat symbol for sabotage. The present work shows the black cat with its claws fully extended while it arches its back on top of a bag of money, coins spilling out. As Chaplin later wrote, "My 'Sab Cat' was supposed to symbolize the 'slow down' as a means of 'striking on the job,'" (cf. https://iww.org/history/icons/black_cat), though many, including the United States government, interpreted it as something much more pernicious. In fact, the accompanying pamphlet, with its cover art and title, raised serious red flags and by the time the United States entered WW1 all copies of Sabotage still in the hands of the I.W.W. were destroyed. Bel exemplaire, frais. [Click Below for Full Description]

Wagner, Otto, Architekt (1841-1918)
Zusammen 4? SS. auf 7 Bll. Meist gr.-8vo. Also zur Sache. [Click Below for Full Description]
