Döblin, Alfred
München u. Leipzig, Georg Müller, 1913. 210 S., 1 Bl. 8°, Orig.-Pappbd. (Joseph Adler in: Der Sturm, Jahrg. 4, Nr. 170/71, S. 71.) 1913/14, Beiblatt S. 67.) - Einbandkanten etwas berieben, sonst gut erhaltenes Exemplar. - Raabe/Hannich-B. 58.3. - Huguet 2. - Peitz 2.

Harrison Fisher
New York: Dodd, Mead & Co, 1913. Condition: Near Fine binding. A lovely copy of Harrison Fisher's lovely book. The 16 mounted plates are beautiful -- several plates had slight creases at the edge, which have uncreased and show very little. Accompanied by the original cover artwork (43x27.75cm.), black ink on cream stock, several losses and a few closed tears to margins, none approaching image, old vertical fold line, stock rather brittle from age and poor quality, else Near Very Good. Quite possibly the earliest iteration of Ralph Chaplin's now-ubiquitous "Sabo-Tabby," the I.W.W.'s black cat symbol for sabotage. The present work shows the black cat with its claws fully extended while it arches its back on top of a bag of money, coins spilling out. As Chaplin later wrote, "My 'Sab Cat' was supposed to symbolize the 'slow down' as a means of 'striking on the job,'" (cf. https://iww.org/history/icons/black_cat), though many, including the United States government, interpreted it as something much more pernicious. In fact, the accompanying pamphlet, with its cover art and title, raised serious red flags and by the time the United States entered WW1 all copies of Sabotage still in the hands of the I.W.W. were destroyed. Bel exemplaire, frais. [Click Below for Full Description]

Wagner, Otto, Architekt (1841-1918)
Zusammen 4? SS. auf 7 Bll. Meist gr.-8vo. Also zur Sache. [Click Below for Full Description]

1913. Condition: Very Good. The Catholic Encyclopedia: An International Work of Reference on the Constitution, Doctrine, Discipline, and History of the Catholic Church,[1] also referred to as the Old Catholic Encyclopedia and the Original Catholic Encyclopedia,[2] is an English-language encyclopedia published in the United States and designed to serve the Roman Catholic Church. The first volume appeared in March 1907 and the last three volumes appeared in 1912, followed by a master index volume in 1914 and later supplementary volumes. It was designed "to give its readers full and authoritative information on the entire cycle of Catholic interests, action and doctrine".[3][4] The Catholic Encyclopedia was published by the Robert Appleton Company (RAC), a publishing company incorporated at New York in February 1905 for the express purpose of publishing the encyclopedia. The five members of the encyclopedia's Editorial Board also served as the directors of the company. In 1912 the company's name was changed to The Encyclopedia Press. Publication of the encyclopedia's volumes was the sole business conducted by the company during the project's lifetime.[5] Purpose The encyclopedia was designed to serve the Roman Catholic Church, concentrating on information related to the Church and explaining matters from the Catholic point of view. It records the accomplishments of Catholics and others in nearly all intellectual and professional pursuits, including artists, educators, poets and scientists. While more limited in focus than other general encyclopedias, it was far broader in scop … [Click Below for Full Description]

RACKHAM, Arthur.
London: William Heinemann, 1913. Octavo (197 x 145 mm). Recent red morocco for Asprey, titles to spine in gilt in compartments, raised bands tooled in gilt, single rule border in gilt to cover, turn-ins ruled in gilt, marbled endpapers, edges gilt. Occasional very faint foxing, not affecting plates; else a fine copy. Colour frontispiece and 12 colour plates with captioned tissue guards, black and white illustrations in the text, by Rackham. A handsomely bound copy of the first trade edition. Unusually, the trade edition of Mother Goose is an entirely different setting of type from the deluxe, with a smaller type area and the illustrations mostly reduced in size. The colour plates are printed within a cream border directly on white paper rather than mounted, all except the Mother Goose illustration which has a black border and is the same size as the deluxe version. Riall notes that later issues have plain endpapers, and as the original endpapers are not retained it is impossible to confirm the impression of this copy. Latimore & Haskell pp. 40-41; Riall pp. 115-16. [Attributes: First Edition]

Used with wear and tear. 1913, Smith, Elder & Co. Presentation copy to Francis Grenfell (one of the first men to win a VC in the First World War). Much wear to covers, pages clean except light foxing to end pages Postage and packaging is not free! Postage costs have risen significantly in a very short time, particularly on slightly heavier items like books or long items like tubes. They seem to be targeting on-line sellers in fee increases. The cost of strong, rigid packaging has also risen and needs to be stronger than before as the PO sorting office automatic sorting equipment seems to damage more items. All our items are rare and our customers would rather them arrive safely, than have free postage. Since EBay rules won't let us set the real postage and we can only use their fixed rates, some customer may pay slightly more for very light items, but we lose money on heavier or larger ones. Thanks for your understanding. Important- Shipping dates for Christmas 2018 and part 2019. Read this before ordering! We will be shipping only once a month, at end of each month, starting from this October 27th, until March 30th, 2019. After next week, the next ship date is December 1st. That is it for the Christmas period! December 1st should still be in time for Christmas for UK shipping. Overseas customer should order now, or tick the express service to receive it by Christmas on our before December 1st. Sorry, no exceptions as we will not physically be here to ship, except these dates.
