In good condition, with a signed photo from the author. SEVEN STEPS in the Life of Professor Sidney Weltmer * 1906 HC Signed Grace Brown SEVEN STEPS in the Life of Professor Sidney Weltmer * 1906 HC Signed Grace Brown For sale today is an original 1906 printing of "Seven Steps in the Life of Professor Sidney A Weltmer" by Grace M. Brown. Self published by Weltmer, the book features a glued in photo of the author, Grace Brown, that has been signed. It also features two glued in homilies called "You and I." One is by Grace Brown, the other by famed New Thought technician, Julia Seaton Sears. Weltmer was best known for The Weltmer Method and was the founder of the Weltmer Institute of Suggestive Therapeutics. He claimed that his methods could cure disease through suggestion and hypnosis, which he called "magnetic healing." Take a look at the photos. The original owner filled the front free pages with notes. Slight crack at front cover, as you can see, but the book is in good condition. A very rare look into the metaphysical experimentation that was beginning to take hold around the turn of the century. Questions? Just ask! Listing and template services provided by inkFrog.

FORD.] HUEFFER, Ford Madox.
London: Alston Rivers, Ltd, 1906. Octavo. Original red cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt with gilt-stamped decoration, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Spine faded, head of front joint partly split, text block unaffected, slight foxing to contents. A very good copy. Title page printed in red and black. First edition, first impression, presentation copy inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper: "Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Marwood from Ford Madox Hueffer 9th May 1906". Arthur Marwood (1868-1916), the recipient, was a highly significant figure in Ford's life: "after Madox Brown, Conrad, and James, he was to become the most important man in Ford's life and in his writing" (Saunders, p. 209). Ford met Marwood in 1905, when the two became neighbours — Marwood had moved to Winchelsea, seeking a milder climate for his tuberculosis. The two became particularly intimate in the early part of 1906, around the time this copy was inscribed. In April of that year, Ford took H. G. Wells to lunch where he "had a fine argument with the great Marwood" (Moser, p. 65). When Marwood died from tuberculosis in 1916, his death impressed Ford "more profoundly than any since those of his father and grandfather" (Saunders vol. II, p. 5). The character of Christopher Tietjens, the protagonist of Ford's war tetralogy (1924-1928), was partly a tribute to Marwood, "from whom he took Tietjens's grand Yorkshire background, mathematical skills and habit of 'tabulating from memory the errors in the Encyclopaedia Britannica'" (LRB, Vol. 34, No. 19). From the collection of Thomas Moser, Professor … [Click Below for Full Description]

A -L Donnadieux
Paris: Gauthier-Villars, 1906. Condition: Near Fine. 2 titles in one volume. VIII, 248, [V]-VII, [1] pages + 20 plates + [249]-251 pages. Second title [1]-207 pages. Half calf over marbled boards. Large 8vo. 6 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches. Light browning to pages. Boards. The first title, "Traite de photographie stereoscopique. Theorie et pratique," was originally issued with the 20 plates in a separate cloth-backed portfolio. Here the plates have been bound in. Both titles are scarce, with Fabre's work not present in the Epstean collection as of this writing. Both titles deal with the theory and practice of stereoscopy. This artform / photographic technique allows the photographer to take a photograph which can be viewed later in three dimensions. It is accomplished by taking the same image with 2 lenses slightly separated from one another, which when viewed through a stereoscope with similarly separated lenses allows the viewer to see depth in the image. A fascinating parlor trick since the 1850s and still something that wows the public who often hasn't seen it. Both titles are scarce, with fewer than a dozen examples in book form in library systems participating in Worldcat/OCLC.
