I have listed at the bottom a list of the No and condition EG P=Poor A = Average G = Good The Play Pictorial was an English theatrical magazine which was published in London between 1902 and 1939. It concentrated on providing a pictorial record of West End theatrical productions, each issue being devoted to a single show, with descriptions of the plot, the costumes and the sets, and numerous photographs of the cast and scenes from the production; in the case of musicals, it usually included some of the lyrics and short extracts from the score. In 1905, The Play Pictorial merged with a rival magazine, The Play, which had been published between May and October 1904 under the editorship of Benjamin William Findon, and in mid-1906 Findon took over as editor of the combined magazine, which he continued to edit for over 30 years. The last issue of Play Pictorial, no 446, appeared in 1939, after which the magazine was absorbed into another London theatrical magazine Theatre World I try to be as concise as I can within the descr … [Click Below for Full Description]

THE CRUISE OF THE DAZZLER by Jack London New York: The Century Company, 1902 First Edition, First Printing. A good to very good book solid copy of the scarcest Jack London title. First edition. Published in 1902 by The Century Company. -------- Jack London's scarce to encounter in first edition book and his only juvenile novel other than "Dutch Courage." The book is noted for is fragile nature, and when encountered usually shows up in fair to good only condition. Probably not many survived as this was a children's book. (I have seen only one fine copy in my experience in decades of selling rare books.) The book has total pagination and the frontis illustration and the five black and white illustrations on slick paper. The end papers are clean and have been neatly fixed.Only a hint of glue residue along the rear fixed end paper edge (hardly noticed and a glued down dark strip (not objectionable) on the fixed rear endpaper. Please see the photos. The front cover is very good as shown with some surface rubbing. Usually the boat colours and zodiac images are rubbed severely on the book. The spine is, as usually encountered with this title, rubbed and faded. This is common in this book. The rear cover is very good with only a faint darkened area in the upper right corner. Please see the photos. Light corner rubbing to corners and bottom of spine. Usually they are frayed much worse than is in this book. The interior of the book is very good. Some moderate soiling here and there on some pages but not throughout the book, and again much less soiled than usually found. There is soil … [Click Below for Full Description]

CONRAD Joseph
[1902.]. First edition. 8vo., 8pp. As issued, without wrappers. Morocco backed slip-in case. Hythe, [Privately Printed for the author by] J. Lovick. Some rust-staining from one of the two staples, vertical fold, but crisp and unworn. Shortly after completing The Nigger of the ?Narcissus? Conrad wrote a preface for it, which the publishers declined to include in the published edition of the book. The author decided to print it privately, and had 100 copies run off (40 of these were said to have been destroyed later and this is supported by the item's considerable scarcity) by a jobbing printer. The text is described by Conrad's biographer Jocelyn Baines as ?supremely important for the understanding of Conrad's intention as an artist . . . together with the preface to A Personal Record, the finest piece of non-fictional prose that he wrote.? Conrad's enthusiasms often appear a little subdued, but this is not so here: ?And art itself may be defined as a single-minded attempt to render the highest kind of justice to the visible universe . . . an attempt to find in its forms, in its colours, in its light, in its shadows, in the aspects of matter and in the facts of life, what of each is fundamental, what is enduring and essential . . . the very truth of their existence. The artist then, like the thinker or the scientist, seeks the truth and makes his appeal.? The American book artist Leonard Baskin produced a fine edition of the text in 1966, with much critical apparatus, titled Conrad's Manifesto. Preface to a career.
