In the first paper Planck formulated the law of black body radiation. One of the cornerstones of quantum physics. By coincidence, this issue also includes the earliest published paper by Albert Einstein, "Folgerungen aus den Capillaritätserscheinungen." (pp. 513-523). Old stamp on front wrapper, binding broken, a few gatherings and the back wrapper detached. In all a very good and internally clean copy of the original publications in the original wrappers. The brown cloth folio has stains seen in the photo and edgewear. A great find for the C. F. Underwood collector. "Venetus A ist das berühmteste erhaltene Manuskript der Homerischen Ilias und weiterer Texte. Von manchen wird es als der beste Text dieses Epos betrachtet. Der Venetus A überliefert auch eine Version zum Leben des Homer und Zusammenfassungen des Epischen Zyklus. Der Abschnitt der Kypria ist jedoch fehlerhaft. Verschiedene andere Manuskripte enthalten das Leben des Homer, oder die Zusammenfassung der Kypria oder beides, aber keiner enthält den Rest des Epischen Zyklus wie der Venetus A. Die Editio princeps des Venetus A im Jahre 1788 durch Jean-Baptiste Gaspard d'Ansse de Villoison stellte seinerzeit eine philologische Sensation dar." (Wikipedia). Sydney Cockerell was the director of the Fitzwilliam Museum and a friend of William Morris; he was evidently instrumental in getting this book illustrated with his business partner in photoengraving Emery Walker.

Some trivial wear; Fine. Uncommon to find this title in a contemporary leather binding. A brilliant scientist who accidentally produces a gravity-defying substance and builds a spaceship, and with the materialistic Bedford, they travel to the moon.
