VACCINATION - PASTEUR - HAFFKINE
[Click Below for Full Description]

Conrad, Joseph
London: T. Fisher Unwin, 1895. First Edition. Original hunter green publisher's cloth, top edges gilt. A few small spots and chips to spine; corners lightly worn. A Near Fine copy, with the first issue points of the omitted "e" in "generosity" on page 100; omission of the word "of" on the same page; and omission of the title's full stop on page 43. Quite a rare book, especially in nice condition, as only 1,100 copies were printed according to the author. Conrad's first novel set the tone for his literary career, and it has been hailed as a thought-provoking reflection on human nature and the intersection of cultures. Set in turn of the century Borneo, the story depicts the rapid rise and fall of Kaspar Almayer, a Dutch merchant struggling to develop his own trade and suffering an unhappy marriage to a Malayan. It only Almayer's daughter Nina who brings light to his life, which is largely shaped by greed and prejudice. Near Fine. Near Fine.

Mascella superiore divisa in coda su 2 cm. Monete leggermente piegate. Qualche pallido volpe sparpagliato. Bella copia, nonostante i difetti minori.
Catalogue D in fine. 1895. For sale is a rare and desirable SIGNED first edition/first printing of The Second Jungle Book, by Rudyard Kipling. Published by MacMillan and Co., London, 1895. All pages collated as complete, along with the publisher's advertisement leaf to the rear. This copy is inscribed by the author to Elsie, his youngest daughter. This inscription is certainly in the hand of Kipling, and it is dated 1896. It reads; 'To Elsie Fiona, from her Father. 1896.' A COA will be provided with the book. Bound in the publisher's original blue cloth, with exquisite gilt tooling to the spine and upper board. Original black-coated endpapers and all page edges gilt. Externally it remains in very pleasing order; the gilt bright and the cloth also. The hinges are firm and the spine is good. Internally, the pages are largely clean, with the odd amount of marking to some. Overall, this famous work comes highly recommended; it sits most handsomely upon the shelf, and it is indeed rare in the first printing of the first edition. [Attributes: First Edition]
