Il publia un ouvrage de souvenirs sur ce séjour (Trois mois à l'île Bourbon, Journal d'un étudiant), ainsi que deux livres sur Madagascar, où il n'était jamais allé. Jules-Alexandre Grun
1895. Maîtres de l'Affiche (Masters of the Poster) refers to 256 color lithographic plates used to create an art publication during the Belle Époque in Paris, France. The collection, reproduced from the original works of ninety-seven artists in a smaller 11 x 15-inch format, was put together by Jules Chéret, the father of poster art and distributed between 1895 – 1900. The varied selection of prints was sold in packages of four and delivered monthly to subscribers. Designed for a subscription audience, the publication showcased the most influential posters of the era in a collectible small format. This poster advertises the Café Riche centered in Paris, France. The text on the upper portion of the poster reads "Where do they go?" The image features a stark black background and two guards escorting a woman in a vibrant red dress. The bottom text of the poster reads "Au Violin", revealing the show in which they are all going to at the Café Riche. Jules-Alexandre Grun (1868 – 1934) was a French post-impressionist painter, poster artist, and illustrator. Grun's best known painting is called The Dinner Party, produced in 1911. It was, however, in the field of poster art and illustration, for which he was famous. He was employed at a large printing company in Paris and his artistic director was Jules Cheret. Cheret was also his main competitor in poster art. This is an Original Vintage Poster, not a reproduction. This poster is on heavyweight paper and is in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters. Width: 11.5 Height: 15.5

There are also cases involving swallowed diamonds, Ostrich auctions and large bat-like creatures. The devil even features, at one point. Kipling, Rudyard
London: Macmillan, 1894, 1895. First editions. Original publisher's cloth bindings with gilt to spines and boards. All edges brightly gilt. Gently bumping to extremities. Spine of The Jungle Book the slightest bit rolled. Small cloth repair near the crown of spine on The Second Jungle Book. Dark green endpapers. Internally both copies bright and clean, with just a bit of scattered foxing to the second. An attractive pair of Kipling's most memorable works. Based on folk tales and legends that Kipling learned during his childhood in India but written while in Vermont. This work of several inter-related short stories met with huge success upon publication and continues to enthrall readers of all ages to this day. According to Professor Edwin L. Miller, their publication "caused even severe critics of [Kipling's] previous work to admit that he is a writer of inspired genius." Largely focused on man's relationship to nature, The Jungle Books in part narrate the tales of Mowgli, a human (man-cub) raised by wolves, as he tries to find his proper place in the world. As he struggles with his own identity, he finds allies and adversaries among the animal communities through which he travels. They also include the story of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, the heroic mongoose who would later inspire an animated short voiced by Orson Welles. For contributions like these, Kipling became the first English-language writer, and the youngest ever, to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. Near Fine. Near Fine. [Attributes: First Edition]

The Folies-Bergere was one of his frequent clients for three decades (60 posters) and so were the Alcazar, the Ambassadeurs, the Moulin Rouge, the Hippodrome and the Musee Grevin. Charles Tichon
The Cyclists Attention poster dated from 1895 is an image which announces the move of company, Maison Chereau (House of Chereau). The text on the upper portion of the poster reads "Attention Cyclists, the new address of Maison Chereau is 89bis Rue De Rennes, Nantes" while the bottom text reads "the best market of the region". The poster’s background is set in a peach color with the foreground depicting a variety of individuals from all walks of life, giving insight to the array of individuals Maison Chereau must have appealed to, journeying presumably toward the new store location. Unfortunately, there is little information on artist Charles Tichon. He was known to have created a small body of poster art from the 1890’s to the 1900’s. This is an Original Vintage Poster. Bound in the original cloth blue lettering on the spine and purple lettering and sphinx decoration on the front board, both the top and fore-edge are untrimmed. Only very slightly rubbed, a very good copy. The first edition of the classic science-fiction novel by Wells which has become one of the most famous science-fiction stories ever written. This copy has slightly lately advertisements than the very first issue. The text block is identical to the first editions, it is just the 16 pages of advertisements starting with 'Donovan Pasha' by Gilbert Parker and end with 'The Virgins of the Rocks'. This combination of adverts indicates the printed sheets and binding cases from the first issue were still in stock and being bound as the trade demanded them, so the advertisements are a later configuration than the 'Currey A' issue in which the first title on the advertisements is 'The Manxman' by Paul Caine. Malacca Strait, Kuala Lumpur - 1895
1895. RARE 19TH CENTURY MAP OF THE MALACCA STRAIT WITH KUALA LUMPUR 'Malacca Strait Pulo Berhala to Cape Rachada', engraving by Davies & Company published in London by the British Admiralty in 8 October 1895 under the superintendence of Rear Admiral Sir W.J.L. Wharton. Size: 66 x 98 cm. In 1795 King George III created the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office to provide top notch nautical charts to the vast Royal Navy. Prior to the founding of the Admiralty the surveying and creation of nautical charts was primarily a commercial venture in which the cartographer himself, more often than not, actually financed the printing of his own material. The great navigator James Cook himself is known to have scrambled for funds to publish his own seminal charts - the most important and advanced of the period. The system of privately funded nautical mapping and publishing left vast portions of the world uncharted and many excellent charts unpublished. King George III, responding to significant loss in trade revenue related to shipwrecks and delay due to poor charts, recognised the need for an institutionalised government sponsored cartographic agency - the Admiralty. The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office is still in operation today. On this rare and large 19th century nautical chart or maritime map we see the Malay Peninsula with Kuala Lumpur, its neighbouring islands and parts of Sumatra surrounded by the South China Sea and Malacca Strait. Early Kuala Lumpur was a small town that suffered from many social and political problems ' the buildings were made of wood and atap (palm frond tha … [Click Below for Full Description]

H. G. Wells
Henry Holt & Company. H.G. Wells - The Time Machine - First Edition New York: Henry Holt, 1895. First edition, first issue of the author's first novel. Precedes the English edition by several months and with textual differences. Currey's first printing and (A) state binding with author's name misprinted "H.S. Wells" on the title-page (and in the "Author's Note" following title). Later issues were bound in red or maroon cloth with Wells' name corrected. Spine spotted and sun darkened. Some soiling to the cloth boards. Some page tops appear dirty. Previous owner bookplate to front pastedown. The boards are still bright and firm. Might need a couple hundred dollar cleaning but still comes in thousands under the next available copy. "The Time Machine might be considered the first work of modern science-fiction, and it is still the classic statement of an important subgenre. A remarkable work, and necessary reading" (Bleiler, Science-Fiction 2325). Currey, p.524. [Attributes: First Edition]
