The part of Armando was written for the castrato Giovanni Battista Velluti, which makes the work noteworthy as the last major opera with a role for that voice type. Following its Venetian première, Il crociato took other houses by storm: within a little over a year productions were mounted in Florence, Trieste, Padua, Parma and London. The work then served as Meyerbeer's entrée to Paris, where it was first performed at the Théâtre Italien on 25 September 1825 with the soprano Giuditta Pasta in the role of Arm … [Click Below for Full Description]

ECOLE NAPOLITAINE
(Naples) circa. [Click Below for Full Description]

Lucia a mare.

[Click Below for Full Description]

[Click Below for Full Description]

Wilson, Harriette
London: J.J. Stockdale, 1825. "Fifteenth Edition". Hand-colored engraved frontispiece in each vol, four hand-colored engraved plates. 4 vols. 12mo. 20th-century three quarter blue-green crushed morocco, gilt, a.e.g., by Root & Son. Bookplate. Plates mounted. "Fifteenth Edition" Hand-colored engraved frontispiece in each vol, four hand-colored engraved plates. 4 vols. 12mo. A notorious book, recounting the courtesan-author's liaisons in fashionable society, which reputedly drew from the Duke of Wellington the oft-quoted outburst 'Publish and be damned'. 'The book ... appeared in 1825 in four volumes ... published by John Joseph Stockdale, John Murray having declined the work. The book ran to thirty editions in the first year; on its first appearance, demand was so great that a barrier had to be erected in front of Stockdale's premises ... Harriette Wilson was described as "far from beautiful, but a smart, saucy girl, with good eyes and dark hair, and the manners of a wild schoolboy" ... Although wide, her appeal was not universal: Henry Luttrell earned her hatred by refusing her advances, and Byron declined her invitation to make her acquaintance. She was the most notorious of a circle of female relatives who shared her profession... (Oxford DNB).
