[Click Below for Full Description]

Napoleone ZUCOLI, Filippo CAMPI
Original etching enhanced and signed Nap. Zucoli inc. (incised) In the lower left corner and Campi Acquer. (Acquarello) in the lower right corner.View of the Villa d'Este bordering Lake Como. Directed by Filippo Campi and Napoleone Zucoli, engravers. This etching is part of a set of lacustrine landscapes and views of Italian monuments (Villa d'Este, Duomo of Milan ...) gathered in an amicorum album among engravings, lithographs, drawings, and washings .Executed in the first quarter of the 19th century, these etchings sum up the stages of the "Grand Tour" of Italy, the obligatory journey of the post-Napoleonic nobility who came to Italy to make an artistic and bucolic pilgrimage to the great achievements of the Renaissance Tuscany and the charming Lombard and Piedmontese mountain lakes. The European aristocracy was therefore fond of these etchings of good graphic quality enhanced by brilliant colors, which brought together the high places of architecture and the Italian countryside.(Milan) 1818 23,5x18cm une feuille sous marie-louise

Cobbett, William
Clayton and Kingsland, 1818. Clayton and Kingsland. Hardcover. New York, 1818. 12mo, contemporary calf, 184 pp. The scarce first edition of Cobbett's important work, printed in an edition of 5,000. A good copy in a contemporary calf binding. Sizable chip to calf at head of spine, hinges superficially cracked but holding, contemporary ownership signature to front free endpaper (dated in 1818), normal foxing to pages. An important work. "Having taken a lease on a Long Island farm, Cobbett lived a quieter life than during his first American sojourn, but he continued the Political Register from abroad as well as writing more books and tracts, most notably the agricultural treatise A Year's Residence in the United States of America (1818) and his widely selling Grammar of the English Language (1818). This latter work, which Cobbett saw as a testament to the intellectual capacity of himself and of the common people as a whole, was intended especially for the use of soldiers, sailors, apprentices, and plough-boys; accordingly Cobbett cheekily drew his examples of faulty grammar from the writings and speeches of such renowned political leaders as the duke of Wellington, Lord Castlereagh, and George III himself. The English Grammar continued to be used in English schools into the 1920s and 1930s." - Oxford DNB. Please contact us for additional pictures or information. . Good. 1818. First Edition.

the Church of England. In four volumes
London - Ogles, Duncan, and Cochran 1818 - A very scarce complete set of Wogan's work on the Christian faith. Third Edition. Complete in four volumes. 'To be read on Sundays and chief festivals throughout the year, as they are directed by her table of proper lessons'. 'To which are prefixed prefaces, pointing out the design of the respective lessons. 'With a life of the author by the Rev. James Gatliff'. William Wogan (16781758), religious writer, possibly born in Ireland, was a younger son of Ethelred Wogan (d. 1685), rector of Gumfreston, Pembrokeshire, and vicar of Penally. Wogan was a man of distinguished piety, and was on intimate terms with many of the evangelical leaders of the time. He knew John Wesley and visited him in Oxford. He corresponded with him, as well as with George Whitefield, and was a friend of Thomas Broughton to whom he dedicated a manuscript work entitled The true Methodist. Initially Wogan had great sympathy with the Methodist movement. He shared their insistence on a personal relationship with God, on the importance of prayer and Bible study, and on the need to combat original sin when raising children. However, he was concerned that zeal should be tempered with prudence and insisted that religious observance should be set firmly within the framework of the established church. Although Wesley assured him that their difference of opinion would not harm their relations … [Click Below for Full Description]

VICAT (Louis Joseph)
Rares rousseurs
