1818. 1 S. auf Doppelblatt. 4to. Mit eh. Adresse (Faltbrief). An seine Ehefrau Christiane Cotta, geb. Ortmann (1764-1819): "Glücklich und wohl sind wir hier angelangt. Die Arbeit zieht sich aber mehr in die Länge, als ich vermuthet habe, und wir werden daher wohl erst gegen den 13ten oder 14ten d. M. eintreffen können. Dies ist auch die Ursache, warum ich nicht eher geschrieben habe, weil ich gerne erst genauer angeben wollte, wann wir zurück kämen [...]". - 1810 als Direktor an die Forstvermessungsanstalt in Tharandt berufen, siedelte er 1811 mit seinem 1794 gegründeten Institut dorthin über. 1816 wurde die Anstalt zur staatlichen Forstakademie erhoben, der Cotta als Direktor mit dem Titel eines Oberforstrats sowie als Leiter des sächsischen Forsteinrichtungswesens bis zu seinem Tod vorstand. - Etwas braunfleckig.

A letter by Admiral Baron Albin Reine Roussin, dated "Rochefort 21st of August 1818", to Louis-Marie Bajot (1775-1854), the inspector-general of the libraries of the Ministry of the French Navy and editor of the Annales maritimes & coloniales.Roussin discusses an article published in the Annales Maritimes (which had appeared earlier in the Moniteur of 13 October) that criticized his survey of the African coast from Senegal to Guinea, as well as the work of several of his predecessors and colleagues, including Labarthe's Voyage à la côte de Guinée, où Description des côtes d'Afrique. Roussin published the results of his surveys a year later as Mémoire sur la navigation aux côtes occidentales d'Afrique (Paris, 1819).In very good condition.

Great Marlow, 1. I. 1818. - 4to. 1 p. Addressed on reverse. Matted with a printed colour portrait. To his bankers, Messrs. Brookes & Co. in London: "Gentlemen. Be so good as to send me Fifty Pounds which place to my account [.]". Ten days later, Shelley's "Ozymandias" appeared in "The Examiner". He would leave England for the last time about three months later in March 1818. - Seal tear from removal of waxed seal; one neat repair at top and several slight chips along margin. Traces of original folds.
