Mason County, Kentucky and Red Sulphur [Springs], [West] Virginia, 1818. Unbound. Very good. The oldest document, dated 28 June 1810, is a certified statement from a Mason County Justice of the Peace, John Pepper, and the Clerk of the County Court, Thomas Marshall, summarizing the Drakes' statements: "Alexander Spotswood did give to them and let to them to farm for the Consideration of Eleven Hundred pounds of tobacco pr year Two Hundred and Sixty eight acres of land to have and hold the farm during his life and Ann his wife, and Peter Larue' life also." It is signed by John Pepper, the Justice of the Peace and Thomas Marshall, the Clerk of the Court. There are two official certified documents, identical in content, issued almost six years later on 26 February 1816, once more summarized by John Pepper, but certified by a different Clerk of the Court, Marshall Key: "Peter Larue is a Son of Jacob Larue who liv.d at the time of . . . the lease from Spotswood on Mine Run a little below Richards . . . and as Said Drake had no Child at that time he supposes he had the Said Peter Larue's life in the Lease being an infant of about one or two years old and also a connection - an anon brothers Son of Ann Drake his wife and further Says that Peter Larue was at his house. . . . In contemporary light blue paper-covered boards, recently re-backed in grey paper-covered card with titles to cream paper label on spine. Date added by hand in black ink to base of spine. All edges untrimmed. Bookplate of Frank W. Bentall of Heybridge, Maldon, in Essex to front pastedown. Some wear to boards; very good overall. De Genlis was one of the few French authors acceptable to English audiences in the later eighteenth century, even scoring a mention in Jane Austen's 'Emma'. 'Zuma' was first published in French in 1817.

Loeillot nach Aquarellen von Eduard Hildebrandt lose in 2 OLwd.-Mappen (braun/rot) mit dekorativer Prägung in Gold, Schwarz u. 2 Farben. Thieme-Becker XVII, 74f. - Eduard Hildebrandt (1818-1869) unternahm als Königl. Preuß. Hofmaler auf Empfehlung Alexander von Humboldts im Auftrage Friedrich Wilhelms IV. mehrere Reisen, die er in Aquarellen dokumentierte. Nach seiner Weltreise 1862-64 stellte er im Anschluß 200 Aquarelle in Berlin aus, von denen eine Auswahl ab 1874 in Reproduktionen mit beschreibendem Text im Verlag Wagner, Berlin erschien. Nach drei Verlagswechseln vertrieb zuletzt R. Mitscher die Tafeln, die hier in sehr seltener Vollständigkeit mit allen drei Serien (ohne Text) vorliegen. Alle Tafeln rückseitig numeriert und betitelt. - Die Laschen der Mappen etw. lädiert. Taf. 1 im Rande stärker fleckig, sonst nur einige Fingerspuren im Rande der Kartons. Insgesamt ein außerordentlich wohlerhaltenes Ex. mit farbfrischen Lithos, in dieser Vollständigkeit und Erhaltung kaum noch einmal zu finden. *** Complete 3 Series of total 68 colour-printed lithographs after Hildebrandt. With views of architecture, landscape and street scenes of China, Egypt, India, Japan, North America, the Philippines, Europe etc. Mounted on cardboard with paper label on verso. With a two page extract from 'Hutton's Mathematical Recreations', 'Of the combinations which may be formed with squares divided by a diagonal into two differently coloured triangles'. The final paragraph notes that this book was accompanied by a box (not recorded by any of the stated copies) 'capable of forming 32768 figures perfectly symmetrical and different from one another'.

Enserré dans les montagnes, on peut admirer ses îles célèbles : l'Isola Bella sur la droite, l'Isola Madre et l'Isola dei Pescatori à gauche. Au premier plan, des promeneurs se délassent dans les collines. Réalisée par Jean-François Bosio (1764-1827), peintre, probablement né dans la principauté de Monaco. Il fut professeur de dessin à l'Ecole Polytechnique et élève de François David avant de s'installer à Milan à partir de 1807, où il réalise des paysages, compositions religieuses, des scènes de genre et d'histoire, des aquarelles et dessins. Le graveur, Gaetano Zancon, est né à Bassano en 1771 et mourut à Milan en 1817. Il passe par Vérone, Padoue et enfin Milan, où il a travaillé avec l'éditeur Francesco Bernucca et réalise ces vues des lacs de Lombardie.
