GENLIS, Stéphanie Felicité du Crest de Saint Aubin, Comtesse de (1746-1830).

Madame de Genlis; Translated by Thomas Holcroft
London-Walker and Edwards, 1817. Book. An English translation of this instructional tale from Madame de Genlis. With engraved frontispiece and additional title page. Madame de Genlis was and is best known for her children's works. In Britain, many readers who were sceptical of French philosophy in general, welcomed her books because they presented many of Rousseau's methods while at the same time attacking his principles. Complete in two volumes. Condition: Rebound in half-calf bindings with marbled boards. Externally, smart, with only some slight rubbing. Internally, firmly bound. Bookplate to front pastedown. Pages are bright, and generally clean, though with some occasional spotting. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED. VERY GOOD INDEED. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

[Click Below for Full Description]

Morgan (Sidney Owenson Lady)
printed for Henry Colburn, 1817. 2 parti in un vol. in-4° (298x228mm), pp. XV, 252, 248 + CXV di "Four Appendices on the State of Law, Finance, Medicine, and Political Opinion, in France" di T. Charles Morgan. Sadleir, 1771. Inglese

WEBER, Carl Maria von 1786-1826
Berlin: Adolphe Martin Schlesinger [PN 236], 1817. First Edition. Jähns 220. Hoboken 15, 328. "Once again, to compare [the piano sonatas 2 and 3] with those being written by Beethoven, who was finishing his Op. 101 in A major in the same November, is absurd. But if we except Beethoven as an isolated phenomenon, Weber's achievement as a keyboard composer beside that of his contemporaries is extraordinary. He towers over them, and in his anticipation of the new worlds of feeling to be explored by Schumann, Chopin and Mendelssohn in their piano works, he need fear no comparisons at all. The finale of No. 3 has the gentle Romanticism and indeed much of the technique of a Schumann Novelette..." Warrack: Carl Maria von Weber, p. 172.. Oblong folio. Unbound. [1] (title), 2-29 pp. Engraved, with "Gravée par Ch: Janicot" to foot of page 3. Early signature to title. Moderately foxed; small binder's holes to spine; signature trimmed.
