The first plate shows the keyboard of both instruments, the second the piano wrest plank strung with steel and copper. The Blanchet family had been making harpsichords since the end of the seventeenth century and some of the first pianos to be made in Paris, in the 1790s. The firm's relationship with the court began in the 1740s with the building of a harpsichord for Mesdames à Fontevrault and with increased repair work sent by Christophe Chiquelier, keeper of the King's instruments; during the 1750s the firm became 'facteur des clavessins du Roi'.The advertisement on the verso of the titlepage offers the new strings made of twisted silk recently invented by Baud in Versailles for violins, violas, cellos and guitars.This edition is located by OCLC at the BNF, Bern, Leipzig, Staatliches Institut for Musikforschung, Newberry and Eastman School of Music; the 1818 edition is at the BL and NYPL.

Signed ticket pass for 2 people, for the last rehearsal of his last opera, "I Puritani", which was world premiered at the Theatre Royal Italien in Paris, January 24th 1835.  World premiere included super star singers such as Grisi, Rubini, Tamburini and Lablache. Ticket size is 5.25 x 3.75 inches, mounted on a slightly wider piece of paper to a total width of 5.6 inches. Bold, very clear Bellini signature on the lower right. A very rare, cute and truly amazing piece of memorabilia.

Italian opera composer (1801-1835), one of the greatest of the Bel Canto era. Letter handwritten and signed by him, dated in Paris, May 22nd, 1835 - this is shortly before his death in September of the same year. Written in Italian, sold untranslated, Bellini is asking someone to help his friend Count Barbó who is coming to Paris. One page, 5.25 x 8 inches, in excellent condition. Also included is a vintage print of the composer, a nice addition to this letter if you wish to frame them together. Size is 6.5 x 10.25 inches, in excellent condition. See scans.

'In Feuilles d'Analyse ...Monge assembled, along with general considerations regarding the theory of surfaces and the geometric interpretation of partial differential equations, monographs on about twenty families of surfaces defined by their mode of generation. Application de l'analyse à la géométrie (1807) includes some supplementary material ...' (DSB IX, 476a).'En effet, les Feuilles d'Analyse appliquée à la Geometrie réunissent l'essentiel de son oeuvre dans ce domaine et la plupart des ses travaux ultérieurs ne font que développer sur de nouveaux examples des conceptions déjà esquissées dans cet ouvrage'. (Taton p. 304).I have not been able to locate definitively a set of the 1795 Feuilles listed by Taton, the only lead is a 2 volume compilation in the Bibliothèque National, described as 'Feuilles d'analyse de Monge M. de Prony' without a date. OCLC locates copies of the present edition in North America at Huntington, Berkeley, Library of Congress, Smithsonian, Chicago, NY Public and Oklahoma.

These 2 volumes have been freshly rebound. Some of pages are tanned but overall this is a Very Good copy complete with all the required and numerous illustrations. The work first appeared in 1786 and the preface states that the popularity of the First Edition led to the publication of this New Edition which also allowed the author to add a further 15 years to his history taking it from 1785 to 1800 and the publishers also added the fully illustrated Treatise on Armour. Untrimmed fore and bottom edges to text block now slightly cockled.
