Clarke, Edward Goodman
Londini : in aedibus auctoris et apud Bibliopolarum Tabernas habendum 1799 - pp: [vi], 214, errata. This copy was once held at the library of the Birmingham Medical Institute, and is bound in their library binding [probably late 19th or early 20th century]. Volume is bound as a 24mo (128mm X 83mm) hardcover in red textured cloth, with gilt spine lettering and red speckled text-block edges - and the bookbinder's label (C. Cooper & Co Ltd, Birmingham) is to front paste-down. Fore-margin has been trimmed a little more than upper and lower egdes, but no text has been truncated - and the only library mark inside is a light rubber stamping to the title page. Also to title page is an inked previous owner name (probably contemporary). On p50 is an inked correction (probably contemporary) to a heading, where 'cura' is corrected to 'causa' VERY GOOD condition. Neat and sturdy binding with clear spine lettering and very light rubs to extremities. Text-block is tight with leaves that are generally clean and crisp, but there are a few minor flaws: the fore-margins of pp22-24 have a small (3mm - 5mm) dark spot (see photos); pp81-84 also have a dark spot , this time to lower corner; p113/114 has a 40mm tear to lower margin (text not affected); and the fore-margins of the last twenty or so leaves have light water-staining. Overall, a nicely preserved copy. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
