IN MORTE DI UGO BASS-VILLE SEGUITA IN ROMA IL DI XIV GENNARO MDCCXCIII CANTICA

1793. In 8. Dim. 21,5x14 cm. Pp. 74+LXXX. Presenti dati editoriali a pag. XXXVI (Roma, presso Luigi Perego Salvioni). In buone condizioni. Very scarce editio princeps of the anti-revolutionary work dedicated to the death of Ugo Bassville written by Vincenzo Monti (1754-1828). Ugo Bassville went in Rome with the charge to negotiate the reopening of the diplomatic relations among the papal court and the revolutionary government of Paris. Unfortunately he was killed by roman inhabitants. Monti decided to write this work to justify the happening: he imagines that the soul of Bassville condamns the horrors of french revolution. The work was published for the first time totally anonymous in 1793 in pamphlets published in different periods, the same year was published the second roman edition and another edition. Editorial data are in page XXXVI (Roma, presso Luigi Perego Salvioni). This copy is totally equal to the editio princeps, but 4 not numbered pages are missing, that are the introductive pages to the chants of the work (e.g. third chant "gli altri di daranno in appresso"), pages that could seem insignificant from an editorial point of view and probably thrown by the ex owner. In this copy there is also the second strophe in pag. 23, verses missing in the second roman edition (in which the four numbered pages introductive to chants are missing). The last page LXXX finishes with a not complete sentence, but the work is complete from an editorial point of view, the complete writing will be published only in 1821. Manuscripted dedication in the internal part of front plate dated 1863. In good conditions. Scarce copy, high value. Soft cartonated cover with spien covered by paper in good general conditions slightly worn in the edges and spine. Binding in fair conditions with slight cracks. Inside pages are in good conditions with foxings. Worming in the folding edge of the whole volume with no loss of text.

A Topographical Map of the North.n Part of New York Island, Exhibiting the Plan of Fort Washington, now Fort Knyphausen, Shewing the Several Attacks of the Royal Army

London:. 1793.. Important Revolutionary War era map, showing the attacks on the Patriots during the Battle of Fort Washington, New York by Hessian mercenaries & British forces, and considered the best contemporary plan of the Battle. From Charles Stedman's "History of the American War" and based on a map by Claude Joseph Sauthier. Faden was an important English cartographer and Geographer to King George III; he produced all the British maps of the American Revolution, including maps of the individual colonies, theaters of war, and battle plans, which were highly prized in Britain for their accuracy. This important map of the lower Hudson River (North River) and the current day borough of Manhattan centers on the island from 'Haerlem' and Snake Hill in the south to Tetard's Hill and 'Spiking Devil' in the north. A key at the right lists four attacks on Fort Washington, lettered A through D, with the first, Hessian troops under General Knyphausen; and the second and fourth the British under Matthews, Cornwallis and Percy. Fort Washington is visible at the center, as well as 'Fort Lee or Fort Constitution' directly across the river; these were the two forts intended to protect the lower Hudson from the British. However, Fort Washington fell on November 16, 1776, in a decisive victory for the combined British (under General Howe) and Hessian (under the command of Wilhelm von Knyphausen) forces; the remaining American troops were forced to escape across the Hudson to Fort Lee, which they later fled. Copper engraved map with slight offsetting, a short closed diagonal tear at the left margin, and a very short split at top center fold. 10" x 18 1/4" with original folds, in very good condition.

Volume I has fold-out map entitled"GRAECIAE ANTIQUAE", map has one 4"closed tear on top right corner, also some small closed tears at the creases but overall a very clear and clean print. The entire map measures 21.75"x15". A 12 page subscriber list, sporting contemporary (quill) pen handwritten marginal notes, reads like a hit-list of the rebellion of the 1790's; for example footnoted to the name"Wolf Rt. Hon. Arthur, Attorney Gen. "is the handwritten note "Chief Justice of the King's Bench murdered by the Rebels in his carriage in the Streets of Dublin". All page edges "gilt"green-? , possibly oxidized copper/bronze gilding. Both volumes in nearly identical condition; light wear and soiling to boards, hinges firm but starting at leather gutters, spines have light surface cracks with wear at head and foot.         CORPS DE VOLONTAIRES DE BOURBON [cover title].

L'Isle Bourbon: Imprimerie Coloniale, 1793. - [2],7,[2]pp. Quarto. Printed self-wrappers, stitched as issued. Contemporary manuscript inscription on titlepage. Moderate dampstaining to lower half of text. Good plus. Extremely early and rare imprint from the colonial press at the French colony of Bourbon, present-day Réunion Island, dated August 1, 1793. The text outlines the articles for the organization of a voluntary militia for the island. The first printing press arrived on Réunion in June 1792 and began to print early in 1793, rendering this piece very early in the history of the island's printing. Once printing arrived on the island, it was spotty at best, with a dormant period from 1797 to 1803, and many of the official documents still came over from nearby Mauritius which was responsible for the administration of Réunion. Printing began on Mauritius in 1768, and it would seem that, for the most part, Mauritius's press was sufficient for the distribution of printed material on Réunion Island. No copies located in OCLC. Possibly unique.

Declaration of Independence Signer Samuel Huntington's Copy of an Act of Congress Signed by Thomas Jefferson

Philadelphia, PA 1793 - Printed Document Signed as Secretary of State. "An Act to alter the Times and Places of holding the Circuit Courts in the Eastern District, and in North-Carolina,." Philadelphia, Pa., March 2, 1793. 2 pp., 9 3/4 x 15 in. Signed in Type by George Washington as President. Lengthy docket by Samuel Huntington. This act establishes the exact places and dates for the spring Circuit Courts to meet for the eastern districts of New-York, Connecticut, Vermont, New-Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. This copy of the act, duly signed by Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson a day before the official date of the end of the Second Congress, was sent to Governor Samuel Huntington of Connecticut because the act specified that the spring circuit court "shall henceforth be held . for the district of Connecticut, at New-Haven on the twenty-fifth day of April." In Samuel Huntington's hand: "an Act to alter the times & places of holding the Circuit Courts in the Eastern district & in North Carolina, & for other purposes. March 2d - 93."North Carolina did not have a sufficient number of judges to hold circuit court in the November 1792 term, so this act gave power to the district judge to direct the court clerk to summon jurymen to court and ordered the marshal to execute the process "and the jurymen legally summoned in consequence thereof, are to attend the said court under the like penalties for disobedience as if the said process had been ordered to be issued as usual by the said court."Excerpt"An Act to alter the times and places of holding the Circuit Courts, in the Eastern District, and in North Carolina, and for other purposes.Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, Times for holding spring circuits of eastern district and N. Carolina altered. That the spring circuit courts of the eastern district, instead of being held at the times and places now established by law for holding the same, shall from henceforth be held at the times and places following respectively, namely; for the district of New York, at New York, on the fifth day of April; for the district of Connecticut, at New Haven, on the twenty-fifth day of April; for the district of Vermont, at Windsor and Bennington alternately, beginning at the first, on the twelfth day of May; for the district of New Hampshire, at Portsmouth, on the twenty-seventh day of May; for the district of Massachusetts, at Boston, on the seventh day of June; and for the district of Rhode Island, at Newport, on the nineteenth day of June. And if any of the said days shall happen on a Sunday, the courts, respectively, shall commence and be holden on the day following.Sec. 2. And be it further enacted,N. Carolina circuit court after June where to be held. That from and after the expiration of the session of the circuit court of the state of North Carolina, which is to commence on the first day of June next (which session shall be held, any thing in this act notwithstanding, at Newbern) the stated sessions of the said court shall be held at Wake courthouse, either in the courthouse belonging to the said county, or in some convenient building contiguous thereto, until there shall be convenient accommodations for the said purpose in the city of Raleigh.Sec. 3. And be it further enacted,District judge of N. Carolina how to have jurymen summoned for said June term. Inasmuch as there was not a sufficient quorum of judges to hold the circuit court for the district of North Carolina, for the purpose of doing business, at November term one thousand seven hundred and ninety-two, that it shall and may be lawful for the district judge of the state of North Carolina to direct the clerk of the said court to issue such process for the purpose of having jurymen summoned to attend the said court at the term to commence on the first day of June next, as he had before issued for the like pur.
