PAINE THOMAS.
Cfr. Printing and the Mind of Man 241 (per la versione inglese del 1791): "Rights of Man can be seen for what it is: the textbook of all radical thought and the clearest exposition of the elementary principles of democracy.".

VIRGILIO.
dabam Petrus Didot natu Major 1791 In-folio (cm. 36), pp. (4) iv, 513 (1). Graesse, Schweiger e Mambelli). Cfr. Mambelli (463): "Edizione corretta, ottimamente impressa e assai rara. Furono stampati 100 esemp … [Click Below for Full Description]

Solida ed elegante legatura del tempo in mezza pelle con piccole punte, dorsi lisci con titoli in oro su doppio tassello. Piatti in bella carta decorata.

Big wall map, made of four sheets, from the 'Nuovo Atlante Geografico Universale', with a decorative title cartouche, by Giovanni Maria Cassini, a Somasco monk. He was geographer and cartographer but he was also good at engraving architectural items and perspectives ? he was one of the best disciples Giovanni Battista Piranesi had. Moreover, Cassini was one of the last artists to engrave spheres in the XVIII century and his globes were quite famous and widespread, and realized the most important Italian Atlas of the XVIII century; his maps always bear a cartouche, extremely rich in colours and details. Copperplate with fine later hand colour, in very good condition. Roma Rome Terre di Langobardia p.172, 79. 915 645

It meticulously records the evolution of the British Thoroughbred and has acted as a blueprint of all other stud books worldwide. Being the forerunner of "The General Stud-Book", the definitive ancestry record for Thoroughbreds, continuously published by Weatherbys every four years since 1793, it contains information about all matings and births of Thoroughbreds in Britain and Ireland and as such, it constitutes the official foundation of racehorse selection and evolution."The publication in 1791 by Mr James Weatherby of Volume 1 of The General Stud Book was the key development in the emergence of the thoroughbred as a distinct equine breed. First edition of the most famous biography in any language. The immense task of compiling the thousands of notes Boswell had recorded on "the great man's talk, habits and opinions" was begun after Johnson's death in 1784. Made up of trifling incidents as well as the significant events in Johnson's life, the work remains a masterpiece of portraiture. "Shakespeare is not more decidedly the first of orators, Demosthenes is not more decidedly the first of orators, than Boswell is the first of biographers. He has no second. He has distanced all his competitors so decidedly that it is not worth while to place them. Eclipse is first, the rest nowhere" (Macaulay). Boswell's reputation was further enhanced by the discovery in the early part of the 20th century of the Boswell Papers, which were … [Click Below for Full Description]
