GRASSOT, Louis]
Amsterdam, 1784. Londres [i.e. Paris], s.n., 1785. In-8, [2]-110-[2]p. [Click Below for Full Description]

Lorenzo Echard
Venice: 1784. Good with some signs of wear and age, Please see photos and description. Up for sale is this great antique 1784 complete 9 volume vellum bound set of Echard's "La Storia Romana Dalla Fondazione di Roma persino alla Traslazione dell'Imperio sotto Costantino." The books are overall in good condition with some signs of wear and age. The covers have some soiling and wear as well as a couple of volumes with some period inked lettering to the vellum. The bindings of all the books are good and seem pretty strong. An endpaper or two has some period manuscript writing and a couple of pages have some erased penciling. Some of the pastedown endpapers have tears. One volume has a little bit of white paint to the fore-edge and top corner of the back cover. The pages of the books are toned from age with some light foxing. Along with that there may be the very occasional page with some kind of minor imperfection such as a tiny stain, minor bit of soiling/grubbiness, tiny chip, tear, or small hole, minor bit of worming, minor marking, creased page corner, etc. Generally though, it's a nice set. Each volume measures approximately 6 1/4 inches by 3 3/4 inches. The text of the book is in Italian. All in all a nice and rather rare complete 18th century vellum bound set on Roman History. Please look at the photos to further note note the condition and message me with any questions you might have. Thanks! Abbe de Mably
J. Debrett, London, 1784. [4], 280pp. Hardcover in marbled leather boards with leather spine and gilt title. Previous owner bookplate on front pastedown. First English edition. Mably's work consists of four letters written to John Adams, then the American Minister to Holland, on the government, laws, and political divisions in the United States. The French took great interest in the form that the American government would take after the Revolution, publishing the constitutions of the thirteen states in 1783, and pondering the question of a strong central government, or a loose confederation. "Mably comments on the American approach to government as reflected in the constitutions of the thirteen states, and, more specifically, in those of Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Georgia.he offers advice on a national constitution, urging a loose federation rather than a strong central government and warning against excessive democracy" - Cohen. Another Dublin edition appeared in 1785, in French, predating the present translated edition, though Echeverria & Wilkie deem this a false imprint due to typographical inconsistencies in the dedication. SABIN 42925. HOWES M5 (ref). COHEN 2763. ECHEVERRIA & WILKIE 784/71. I've done my best to describe the book, but if you have additional questions, please don't hesitate to send me an e-mail. 1784.

[Click Below for Full Description]

[Click Below for Full Description]

Siehe: Bister, Ulrich. - Die reformierte Herborner Bibel des Johann Piscator: Geschichte u. Wirkung. Herborn, 2001.
