Blome, Richard (translator)
London : For M. Cooper, at the Globe. and sold by the booksellers of London and Westminster, Oxford and Cambridge, and most of the great cities and noted towns in Great Britain and Ireland 1752 - Folio sized volume (40cm X 25.5cm), with present, but detached boards. Profuse with such wonderfully theatrical illustrations of biblical scenes and fiery text, this voluime is certainly the most entertaining and memorable way to become aquainted with what the bible has to say that I have ever encountered. Some engravings are quite amusing, as they appear to be drawn from a literal view (esp. John’s vision of the angel) by the artist, which probably confirm many thoughts on religious teaching of this period, while the pull-out reproductions of biblical paintings at Hampton court are especially striking. Contemporary full calf with spine having six raised bands and red spine label remnants with partial gilt lettering â€" the words 'Blome's History of the Bible' are still clear. Leaves are unpaginated, but main text plates are numbered, albeit with pagination errors. Signatures: (v. 1) [A] a-n B-Yy ; (v. 2) pi1 A-Ggg . Vol I pp: [54], [170] pages of text to accompany the 173 single sided plates (4 pages of text and plate 55 appear missing), 6 folded plates inc frontis and three maps. Vol II pp: frontis, 83 pages of text to accompany the 79 single-sided plates (1 page of text and five plates appear missing), [128], 10 folded leaves of plates inc. 3 maps. In Vol I, plate 91 is bound before plate 90; the pull-out frontis is in two pieces, and is heavilly creased wit … [Click Below for Full Description]

Giuseppe VASI (Corleone, 27 Agosto 1710 - Roma, 16 Aprile 1782)
[Click Below for Full Description]

Hinges tender, some wear to spine ends and corners, calf rubbed, some worming to lower free corner of preliminary leaves of Vol. One, else a very good copy. "In many ways one of the most remarkable works of the eighteenth century, `The Spirit of Law', owing in the main to the high plane of generalization on which it is written, defies easy classification and for that reason has never enjoyed a great popularity . The most distinctive aspect of this immense syllabus is its moderation: a quality not designed to achieve official approval in 1748. It is an always original survey which is neither doctrinaire, visionary, eccentric, nor over-systematic"-Printing and the Mind of Man, 197. Thomas Nugent's translation of the 1748 French edition was first published in 1750, Montesquieu wrote in a letter dated 18 October 1750: "I cannot help myself, Sir, in giving you my thanks. I gave them to you already, because you translated for me. I give them to you now because you translated so well. Your translation has no other fault than that of the original; and I must remain indebted to you for disguising them so well." [Attr … [Click Below for Full Description]

1752. Original antique print, untitled. It shows: a mythological scene with a nude, bearded faun trying to kiss an escaping nymph. Rare. Etching/engraving on a verge type handlaid paper. Description: This master print originates from a collection of plates titled 'Raccolta di Pitture d'Ercolano', published between 1752 and 1762. These prints we made after frescos and artifacts excavated in Herculaneum (buried in the Vesuvius eruption in 79AD). Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters.Artists and Engravers: Engraved by: Morghen. Original painting or design by: Vanni. Publisher unknown.
