Henry Fielding
This is the first french-language edition, published in four volumes by Jean Nourse, London, in 1750, of Henry Fielding's classic novel, "Tom Jones", published as the "Histoire de Tom Jones, ou l'Enfant Trouvé" (336, 344, 282 & 341 pages), translated into french by M. de la Place, and with 16 full page engravings from the work of Gravelot (Hubert-François Bourguignon). These are, I believe, the original covers (4.5" x 7.5") - simple off-white semi-rigid boards attached to two-toned paper covered spines, which have the title and volume labels attached to their tops. The spine surfaces are in poor condition, with deep tears to some side edges and cracks to others. The spines and boards are attached, but with flex. The internal bindings are holding, with no loose or missing pages, though there are a number of cracked gutters. Many pages are sunned or otherwise stained, mostly to their borders. There are other recurrent (mostly light) stains, but the text shows no notable fade, and is clearly legible throughout, as are the 16 Gravelot illustrations, all of which are attached, unfaded, and with no substantial stains. There are no stamps or other attachments. There are ink initials to the first title spread, and one other brief number notations, but no other writing. The outside edges are irregular. Several have shallow tears or small edge areas that are missing material. Most pages have no tears. The accompanying photos are accurate reflections of the set conditions. International shipping would be by priority insured mail, with a shipping charge of $75.00. [Attributes: First Ed … [Click Below for Full Description]

Galiani, Ferdinando]
Opera prima. «A groundbreaking work on monetary economics, a masterpiece of analysis of value and prices» (Books That Made Europe). [Click Below for Full Description]

[CHARLEMAGNE], [EUROPEAN EMPERORS], [BONNART, Nicholas]
Basset, [c.1750]. [19ff]. Engraved title and 18 engraved plates. Eighteenth-century, likely original marbled paper wraps. Worn, with some loss to spine, wear to extremities. Plates themselves with some light water-staining and marking, wear to margins. Consisting of an engraved title page and 18 further engraved plates depicting the portraits and genealogy of the title of Holy Roman Emperor from its inception until 1745, commencing with Charlemagne and depicting most of the subsequent holders of the position. The latest Emperor depicted, with his Empress, is Francois Etienne de Lorraine, who succeeded Charles VII in 1745. The presence of Emperor Francois's portrait proves that dating of this work to 1720 is entirely spurious. A rare survivor in wraps. . Large Folio.

HONDIUS, Henricus (1597-1651) - VISSCHER, Claes Janszoon (1587-1652) - GOOS, Pieter (1615-1675). Composite Atlas. Amsterdam and Paris: Ca. 1640, composed before 1750. This composite atlas seems to have been composed during the reign of Louis XV (1710-1774) and contains 88 maps of Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Lithuania, Silesia, Scandinavia, Italy, Austria, Bohemia, Moravia, Hungary, Switzerland and France: countries involved in the War of the Polish Succession (1733–1738) and The War of the Austrian Succession (1740–1748). On the inside of the cover, a large engraving (book plate) is pasted with a dedication to Charles François Paul Le Normant de Tournehem, with his coats of arms. This engraving depicts "Time saving Truth from Falsehood and Envy", engraved by Laurent Cars, after a painting by François Lemoyne, 1737. Le Normant de Tournehem, was general manager of the Buildings of the King and a great art lover. The Normant Tournehem was most likely to be the biological father of Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, the future Marquise de Pompadour. DELLA TORRE Giov. Maria
Venezia, Gio. Batt. Recurti, MDCCL (1750). 2 vol. in-4, pp. XXIV, 436; (4), 600. Ottima leg. d'epoca cartonato rustico. Corredati di complessive 61 tavole inc. in rame, ripieg. f.t., raffig. per lo più strumenti, esperimenti e parti anatomiche (''of particular interest are those of units of measurement, the pendulum, electrostatical machines, the pointing of mortar, the compressed-air gun, the refraction of light rays, and chyliferous vessels in man''; D.S.B. III, p. 26).
VENEZIA, GIO. BATTISTA RECURTI, 1750. Due volumi in-4°; XXIV pp., 436 pp., XXXI tavv. rip. f.t. - 2 cc., 600 pp., XXXI tavv. rip. f.t.; cartonatura rustica coeva, titolo manoscritto al dorso. Ottimo esemplare in barbe.

Cf. Bonne Rigobert (1727 - 1795) Paris
Artist: Bonne Rigobert ca ; issued in: Paris; date: ca1750 - - technic: Copper print; - colorit: original colored; - condition: Very good; - size (in cm): 23 x 34; - description: Map shows total Valencia, Murcia, La Manchia, Estremadura and New Castilia; - vita of the artist: Rigobert Bonne (1727?1795) was one of the most important cartographers of the late 18th century. In 1773 Bonne succeeded Jacques Nicolas Bellin as Royal Cartographer to France in the office of the Hydrographer at the Depôt de la Marine. Working in his official capacity, Bonne compiled some of the most detailed and accurate maps of the period. Bonne?s work represents an important step in the evolution of the cartographic ideology away from the decorative work of the 17th and early 18th century towards a more detail oriented and practical aesthetic. With regard to the rendering of terrain Bonne maps bear many stylistic similarities to those of his predecessor, Bellin. However, Bonne maps generally abandon such common 18th century decorative features such as hand coloring, elaborate decorative cartouches, and compass roses. While mostly focusing on coastal regions, the work of Bonne is highly regarded for its detail, historical importance, and overall aesthetic appeal.
