Mommsen`s criticism on his edition of the Variae, which was included in the above work, is very severe: `A work without either skill or learning - Garet took Fournier`s text (Paris, 1579) as a basis, and inserted alterations of his own rather than corrections.` (Mon. Germ. Hist.: Auct. antiq., XII, cxv). As a preface to his edition Garet wrote a dissertation in which he tried to prove that Cassiodorus was a Benedictine. Migne followed the Garet edition in Patrologia Latina, LXIX-LXX. It does not contain the Complexiones, a work discovered later by Maffei" (Wikipedia Abruf vom 15.04.2016). - Buchblock angebrochen. Sumptibus Philippi, ac Martini Veith, & Johannis fratris haeredum. Later edition of Calmet's great dictionary of the Bible, first published at Paris in 1722 in his native French, followed by a supplement in 1728. Here he gives => definitions for hundreds of words and where to find them in Scripture. The text is printed double-column in roman and italic, with a few woodcut initials, headpieces, and an ornament on each of the two title-pages. Select entries from the dictionary are illustrated by => five foldout engraved maps and seventeen full-page engraved plates of places, apparatuses for religious rituals, numismata, dress, and musical instruments described in Scripture, many signed by Augsburg engraver Johann Gottfried Kolb, and one of the maps ascribed to A.P. Starckman. In addition to the engraved plates, there are various tables and charts in both volumes, including a genealogical table after Herod the Great in vol. I; and in vol. II, a chronological register of Hebrew high priests; a comprehensive chronology of general Bible history; a Jewish calendar; and an extensive index of Hebrew names.
