His 'Histoire de France' goes to the year 1610 (the first edition was published in 1703). Daniel belonged to the school of Biondo and he used the critical method for the use of describing French history. He was very stringent in citing his sources and his work is a changeover from the humanistic school to the rational one. Several legends especially from the time of the Franks he removed. Daniel was also a court historiographer, and this led sometimes to subjective opinions about previous kings. Brunet, II, 487 mentions other editions, but not this one from 1729'(...) [French Colonies in America]
[Paris]: De L'Imprimerie de P.J. Mariette, Imprimeur de la Police, 1729. 4pp. Quarto, on a folded folio sheet. Some light foxing and soiling. Contemporary inscription. Very good. This French Royal decree addresses goods smuggled from America, enjoining judges to be severe not only with smugglers, but with those who shelter them or deal in smuggled goods, including tobacco illegally imported into France. This is a variant of the example cited by Wroth, of which only one copy is located, that at Harvard. No copies of this issue are located in OCLC. Rare. From the library of Cardinal Etienne Charles de Lomenie de Brienne (1727-1794), Minister of Louis XVI, Archibishop of Toulouse and of Sens. A friend of Voltaire and a member of the Académie Française, Brienne wielded significant power as as head of the Finance Ministry, which earned him many enemies. He died in prison during the French Revolution, despite having renounced Catholicism in 1793 (presumably as an attempt to save his life). WROTH, ACTS OF FRENCH ROYAL ADMINISTRATION 1179 (ref). MAGGS, FRENCH COLONISATION OF AMERICA 341 (this copy).

Apud Alexandrum Franciscum Vimercatum, Taurini, 1729. In 4, pp. 70 con 1 tav. piu' volte rip. f.t. con albero genealogico. Mancanza al p. ant. Br. muta coeva.
