Bound in contemporary full calf gilt; red label to spine. First edition. Tear in blank margin of genealogical plate; binding repaired at spine; bookplate; else a very good copy. Necker 1377 : 'First published in 1727 Les Chats is one of the earliest books written exclusively about cats. Because of the fame of its author and the ridicule with which it was received (due to its subject matter) the book was immediately popular and is often erroneously considered the first cat book. Other early cat books are lost in obscurity but Les Chats has become a classic in its field.'

An interesting work for its attention to the legal principles underlying the crown's right to impose taxation and explanation of laws themselves, notably those applying to Great Britain's colonies. Our copy does not have the separately paginated appendix and index indicated in the ESTC. We found a copy identical to ours previously, however, and on OCLC. Bonne Rigobert (1727 - 1795) Paris
Artist: Bonne Rigobert ( - 1795) Paris; issued in: Paris; date: ca 1780. - technic: Copper print; - colorit: original colored; - condition: Very good; - size (in cm): 39,5 x 41; - description: Map shows Madagascar and the island France, Mauritius and Bourbon, Reunion. Madagascar- officially the Republic of Madagascar , and previously known as the Malagasy Republic, is an island country in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of East Africa.; Madagascar was an important transoceanic trading hub connecting ports of the Indian Ocean in the early centuries following human settlement. The written history of Madagascar began with the Arabs, who established trading posts along the northwest coast by at least the 10th century. From about 1774 to 1824, Madagascar gained prominence among pirates and European traders, particularly those involved in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Many European sailors were shipwrecked on the coasts of the island, among them Robert Drury, whose journal is one of the few written depictions of life in southern Madagascar during the 18th century. The wealth generated by maritime trade spurred the rise of organized kingdoms on the island, some of which had grown quite powerful by the 17th century. Among these were the Betsimisaraka alliance of the eastern coast and the Sakalava chiefdoms of Menabe and Boina on the west coast. The Kingdom of Imerina, located in the central highlands with its capital at the royal palace of Antananarivo, emerged at around the same time under the leadership of King Andriamanelo. - vita of the artist: Rigobert Bonne (1727?1795) was … [Click Below for Full Description]

Bonne Rigobert (1727 - 1795) Paris
Artist: Bonne Rigobert ( - 1795) Paris; issued in: Paris; date: ca 1780. - technic: Copper print; - colorit: colored; - condition: Very good; - size (in cm): 23 x 35; - description: map of the Philippines with Formosa and 2 detail maps with Guam and the Mariana Islands - vita of the artist: Rigobert Bonne (1727?1795) was one of the most important cartographers of the late 18th century. In 1773 Bonne succeeded Jacques Nicolas Bellin as Royal Cartographer to France in the office of the Hydrographer at the Depôt de la Marine. Working in his official capacity, Bonne compiled some of the most detailed and accurate maps of the period. Bonne?s work represents an important step in the evolution of the cartographic ideology away from the decorative work of the 17th and early 18th century towards a more detail oriented and practical aesthetic. With regard to the rendering of terrain Bonne maps bear many stylistic similarities to those of his predecessor, Bellin. However, Bonne maps generally abandon such common 18th century decorative features such as hand coloring, elaborate decorative cartouches, and compass roses. While mostly focusing on coastal regions, the work of Bonne is highly regarded for its detail, historical importance, and overall aesthetic appeal.

Anonimo
Sn, 1727.

SPENER, PHILIPP JACOB
Publisher: Berlin & Potsdam : Bey Johann Andreas Rüdigern | 1727 | | 1334 s + register | | Some wear, typical antiquarian condition. --- Information regarding the book: Fourth edition (1st. ed. Frankfurt 1692). "Philip Jacob Spener (1635-1705) is credited with forging the ideas of Arndt into a reform movement within Lutheranism. Like Arndt, he was a Lutheran pastor and scholar. He was deeply influenced by (Arndt's) True Christianity (1605), and in 1675, he wrote a foreword to a new edition of True Christianity. This foreword, reissued separately a year later, was entitled Pia Desideria, or Heartfelt Desire for a God-pleasing Reform of the True Evangelical Church, Together with Several Simple Christian Proposals Looking Toward this End. As the title suggests, this work not only critiqued the spiritual state of German Lutheranism; it also outlined a plan of reform. It was greeted with an enthusiastic response by many German people, but with sharp criticism by much of the the clergy. In his subsequent works, Spener continued to outline the needed reform of the Lutheran church"( Gary DeLashmutt at www.xenos.org/essays/pietism). Contemporary full calf, spines richly gilt in six compartments, red edges.

Bonne Rigobert ( 1727 - 1795 ) Paris
Artist: Bonne Rigobert ( - 1795 ) Paris; issued in: Paris; date: ca 1780, 1727. technic: Copper print; colorit: original colored; - condition: Very good; - size (in cm): 24 x 34; - description: Map shows total Guinea; - vita of the artist: Rigobert Bonne (1727?1795) was one of the most important cartographers of the late 18th century.
