Considerazioni pratiche. Dissegnate, e descritte in cinque parti.

Esemplare genuino, bello. (Margine interno della tav. 71 rifatto). Cicognara 430. Berlin Kat., 2628. Fowler n.134. Comolli, III, pp.36-40. Vagnetti Prospettiva E IV b6. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Chez la Veuve de Paul Marret, Amsterdam 1711 - 1711 (the first three volumes, the first bearing the additional legend 'Troisième Edition revûe, corrigée & augmentée d'un volume'), 1714 (the fourth volume), and 1712 (the fifth volume). The separately printed 'Traité des Vents' bound with the second volume, the 'Voyages . . . à la Baie de Campéche' bound in the third, and the 'Voyage de Mr Wafer' bound in the fourth are dated 1715, 1714 and 1714 respectively. Duodecimo, five volumes, with two in-text illustrations plus 34 plates (26 folding) and 11 folding maps. Contemporary mottled calf; spine gilt in compartments, with burgundy morocco title-labels; edges stained red; covers lightly worn; a few trifling splits and tears (not affecting the text) expertly sealed; slight loss to the blank bottom corner tips of two leaves; paper in Volume 3 slightly toned and foxed; trifling signs of use and age; overall in excellent condition. Paul Marret first issued his two-volume French edition of Dampier's 'Nouveau Voyage' in 1698, a year after the original English edition. It was quickly reprinted with the addition of a third volume, the 'Suplément', and later expanded to include the 'Voyage . . . aux Terres Australes', the 'Traité des Vents', and the short accounts of Wood, Sharpe, Cowley and Roberts, translated from 'A Collection of Original Voyages' (1699) edited by William Hacke. The various parts were intended either to be sold separately, or collected in sets bound with uniform titles (as here). This edition was issued posthumously by his widow. See Sabin 18382, but this set appears to have been put together from whichever sheets and plates happened to be at hand in or soon after 1715 (certainly before Marret's 1717 reissue). There is no definitive collation, but, whatever the bibliographical niceties, this remains a scarce and very early collected French edition in attractive original condition.         Assenath.

Sidste side fejlagtigt pag. 344. Ifølge Bibl. Danica IV, 476 mangler alle eksemplarerne i Det kongelige Bibliotek kobberne. Philipp von Zesen [1619-89] occupies a seperate place in the German literature of his time. On different occasions he lived for several years in Amsterdam and was influenced by Dutch literature and even more by the Dutch outlook on Life. He was the most nervous and impressionable of the Baroque writers, a genuine man of literature who lived of his pen without having any other occupation. His novels are the most modern of his time. It is remarkable that both Grimmelshausen and Zesen, almost at the same time, dealt with the story of Joseph. With his annotations Zesen converted the work into a thesaurus of knowledge. (Curt von Faber du Faur). German Baroque Literature 830 first edition only. Goedeke III,102,57 - do not mention the Danish edition. Kroker Barockliteratur p. 765, only the german edition.

Aa X, pp. 240-241; ad 4: not in Knuttel; Picarta; WorldCat. Collection of 4 extremely rare broadsheets with elegies on the death of Willem IV (Willem Karel Hendrik Friso), Prince of Orange (1711-1751), the first hereditary stadtholder of the Netherlands. At least three of the four were reprinted a year later in Dichtkundige cypressenbladen, a collection of elegies on the death of Willem IV.Ad 1: Second copy located of an elegy by the poet Jan Meijer, who wrote several occasional poems under the motto "omnia conando, docilis solertia vincit", including an earlier poem welcoming the Prince into the city of Amsterdam (Onverwagte welkomst-begroetinge aan W.C.H. Friso uit naam der burgeren van Amsterdam). The main poem in the present broadside consists of 7 verses, the first of 6 lines and the rest of 8 lines, and is followed by another 4-line poem at the foot.Ad 2: Second copy located of an elegiac sonnet by the poet Adriaan van Ommering, who openly accused himself of murdering William IV in the line "Ik, ... sidder lezer. I, I have committed this deed).Ad 3: Only copy located of an elegy by the physician and later burgomaster of Culemborg, Cornelis Albertus Kloekhof, consistsing of 14 verses of six lines.Ad 4: Only copy located of an elegiac sonnet by an anonymous poet, written under the motto "ante monet beatitas".These rare, large broadsheets, each printed on a large whole sheet of paper (1mo) are also of typographic interest, in part because they use large initials and types that are not so often used for books aside from occasional heading in large types. All in very good condition, especially considering the ephemeral nature of these publications, with only the ends of a few old folds reinforced. Ad 2 is trimmed close to the outermost edges of the widest line of type at left and right, but they otherwise have generous margins. Rare broadsheets on the death of the Prince of Orange.

765, only the german edition. .
