Thieme/Becker XXI, 439 ff. - Dritte Ausgabe der seltenen Kupferstichfolge, herausgegeben zum 50jährigen Jubiläum der neugebauten Kirche von Evangelisch Heilig-Kreuz (errichtet 1653), gegenüber der zweiten Auflage von 1691 um eine Tafel mit 52 emblematischen Darstellungen erweitert. Die vom Sohn des Architekten, Johann Jakob Kraus d. J. (1642-1701), zuerst 1680 publizierte Folge von Ansichten wurde jeweils nur für "einige Liebhaber" gedruckt. Der Vater, Johann Jakob Kraus d. Ä. (1611-1672), wohl ein Schüler von Elias Holl, hatte die Kirche nach der Zerstörung des Vorgängerbaus, der mittelalterlichen Othmarskapelle, im Stil des Augsburger Frühbarock errichtet. Auf Blatt 3 und 4 die entsprechenden Außenansichten, gestochen von Johann Ulrich Kraus nach Vorlagen von Johann Jacob Kraus d. J. bzw. Hans Jacob Kraus. Bereits der 2. Ausgabe waren zwei neue Tafeln mit dem Gedächtnismonument zur Erbauung der Kirche und dem Grundrißplan hinzugefügt worden. Die ersten 4 Tafeln erhielten zusätzlich erläuternde Verse. Für die vorliegende 3. Ausgabe hatte J. U. Kraus die alten Stiche einschließlich Titelblatt einfach übernommen, das neue Blatt beigegeben und eine Jubiläums-Titelvignette mit seinem Namen und der Datierung "Anno 1703 den Sonnt: nach dem 24 Octob:" montiert. The page features the hand of God suspending the world from a cross attached at the Pole. The surrounding heavens are filled with winsome cherubs, some of whom hold crowns and the hats of popes, cardinals and bishops, with allegorical representations of the continents of Europe, Asia, Africa and America. All of the continental figures hold a map, with the one representing the Americas featuring California as an island. Copperplate with later hand colour, very good condition.

Grösse des Buchs: ca. 11 x 18 cm. Verkaufe aus dem Nachlass meines Grossvaters ein Sammlerexemplar in gutem gebrauchten Zustand. Auf dem Vorsatz wurde handschriftlich ein Name zugefügt, ausserdem Zahlen und das französische Wort für Fisch: poisson. Auf dem Titelblatt ist mittig unten ein Stempelabdruck.Sonst ist das Buch frei von Eintragungen. Das rückwärtige Gelenk ist leicht angebrochen. Ichthyotheologie: Inhalt des ersten oder General-Theils: Erstes Buch: Vom Ursprung, Wesen, Namen, Arten und Eigenschaften der Fische. Anderes Buch: Von dem mannigfalten Gebrauche und Nutzen der Fische. Drittes Buch: Von den göttlichen Absichten bey den Fischen, von dem, was in der Bibel davon gedacht wird, von Fischerrechten, Fischhandel und was da hinein schlägt. Viertes Buch: Von fabelhaften, fremden und wunderbaren Fischen und anderen Wassergeschöpfen und wie aus allen Gott zu erkennen und die Pflichten der Menschen zu folgern sind. Johann Gottfried Ohnefalsch Richter (1703-1765) war Johanniter und von 1734 bis 1765 Pfarrer in Niederschlesien. Gleichzeitig bildete er sich in Archäologie, Geschichte, Literatur, Ethnographie und den Naturwissenschaften. Er veröffentlichte u.a. 1730 die "Sammlung einiger Nachrichten von Kottbus".

Relating to Volume I, Hill 75: 'Dampier was the best known and probably the most intelligent of the famous group of buccaneers that tormented the Spaniard in the South Seas from 1680 to 1720. his industry in taking notes of all he saw was equaled by his pains in preserving them from destruction. His first voyage took him from Virginia to Spanish America and across the Pacific to the East Indies. He traveled extensively in the orient on several voyages which lasted from 1683 to 1691. It was on one of these trips that the first landing was made by the English on Australian shores'. Dampier, an English buccaneer and explorer and one of the more colorful characters sailing in the 17th and 18th centuries, published his various experiences sporadically. He was the first English navigator to assemble a natural history collection. His first book appeared in 1697 followed by another in 1699, and a third in 1703, each volume issued separately and independent of the others.
