Seinen A … [Click Below for Full Description]

Kinsky: Manuskripte, Briefe, Dokumente von Scarlatti bis Stravinsky: Katalog der Musikautographensammlung Louis Koch (Stuttgart: Krais, 1953), p. 1 (with detailed discussion of provenance). Dent p. 224. Grove Music Online works list - Cantatas. Winternitz: Musical Autographs from Monteverdi to Hindemith Vol. I, pp. 53-54; Vol. II plate 15. "Scarlatti's chamber cantatas reveal perhaps more strikingly than any other class of his works his unbroken continuity with preceding phases of the Baroque era and his separation from the following period. With more than 600 known cantatas for which his authorship is reasonably certain and well over 100 others less reliably attributed to him, he is clearly the most prolific cantata composer. These works crown the history of a genre which over more than a century of vigorous growth held a rank second only to opera; indeed contemporaries generally placed it above opera in refinement and regarded it as the supreme challenge to a composer's artistry. Scarlatti was among the last to contribute significantly to its literature." Gregoire Leti
Amsterdam-Henri Schelte, 1703. Book. Two decorative volumes of biographical work on Cromwell, in French. Both have an engraved frontispiece. Scarce. With a dedication to Madame Yolande Beatrix, Grand Princess of Tuscany. Oliver Cromwell (25 April 1599 3 September 1658) was an English military and political leader and later Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland. Born into the middle gentry, Cromwell was relatively obscure for the first 40 years of his life. After undergoing a religious conversion in the 1630s, he became an independent puritan, taking a generally tolerant view towards the many Protestant sects of his period. Condition: In quarter calf bindings with mottled paper covered boards, and gilt title and design detailing to the spines. Externally, generally very smart with a little rubbing and shelfwear. The hinges are slightly strained. Internally, generally firmly bound, with only the end papers loosening in volume I. The pages have some age toning, spotting and handling marks. Both have an ex libris stamp to the second endpaper, dated 1962. Overall: VERY GOOD. Very Good. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
