France: Jonathan Cape. Rare Book Office de la Semaine Sante 1701 Royal Binding Duke of Orleans About the Book Rare book, Office de la Semaine Sante published by in 1701 by Antoine Dezallier with excellent provenance. JORDAN, Johann.
1701. kl.-8. 126 S.Mit gefalt. Ansicht v. Wien (als Frontisp.). Brosch. d. Zt. (Brokatpapier). Geringe Altersspuren. Gugitz 11999 Slg. Adrien Baillet
Paris: J. de Nully, 1701. See pictures. Shelf wear with worn edges, rubbing, etc. Most of the spines have chipping at the top and bottom, with an occasional missing endband. Dusty edges. Many bookseller notes and a 1904 signature on the back of the blank unpaginated front endpaper. Throughout the twelve there is an occasional foxing, toning (throughout), dog-eared pages, edge tear, underline, etc.. All have contemporary biblical engravings pasted in a frontis portraits (extra illustrated). Despite condition notes, the text blocks are in a nice condition. Bookbinders notes on rear endpapers. A handsome set, that display well on the shelf. A wonderful twelve volume calendar of saints, martys, holidays/feasts, etc.., authored/edited by Adrien Baillet, and published in Paris in 1701. Bound handsomely! This work starts in January 1st, in Volume One, and takes twelve volumes to reach December 31st. Extra illustrated, as someone pasted in biblical engravings by Rebusse, of the same period, as a frontis illustrations for each volume. Using Worldcat, I've found this is the earliest edition of this work (therefore, first edition); OCLC #702614329. The bibliography can be confusing because Baillet also published a Lives of the Saints (Vies des Saints) in 1701, in four volumes. This work is actually a calendar, that includes the lives of the saints, but also the martyrs, the holidays and feasts, etc.. See below, for the complete title. Flavius Joseph
France: Jonathan Cape. Rare Book Office de la Semaine Sante 1701 Royal Binding Duke of Orleans About the Book Rare book, Office de la Semaine Sante published by in 1701 by Antoine Dezallier with excellent provenance. The book bears the coat of arms of Phillipe I Duke of Orleans (1661 to 9th June 1701), the younger brother of Louis the IV of France, the "Sun King", and founder of the house of Orleans. As you would expect for a book used by royalty the binding is exceptional. The front and back covers have the gilded coat of arms of the Duke of Orleans surrounded by delicate gilding imitating lace work. The spine has six sections one with abridged title and the rest which appears to be the monogram of Phillipe I Duke of Orleans. Interestingly the book was published and bound a few months before his death with holy week being in March of 1701 and he died on the 9th of June 1701. The book is written in French and Latin and is a prayer book that outlines the services of the catholic holy week. The title page has the following text: "Office de la Semaine Sainte Latin et Francois a l'usage de Rome et de Paris avec lexplication des Ceremonies de l'Eglise & la quelques Prieres tirees de l'Ecriture, pour la Confession & la Communion & sur les mysteres que l'on celebre durrant ce faint temps. Claes Jansz VISSCHER (1587 - 1652)
"The map represents a part of northern Italy: precisely, the territories of the states of Milan, Venice, Genoa, Parma, Mantua, Modena and Ferrara. The mountains are rendered pictorially and the borders between the states are underlined by the use of different colors. This map was probably engraved around 1701. From the numerous inscriptions on paper it is possible to suppose that it constituted part of the work ""Atlas minor sive geographia compendia qua orbis terrarum for paucas attamen novissimas tabulas ostenditur … [Click Below for Full Description]

Nouvelle Edition A Paris Chez Antoine Dezallier, rue saint Jacques a la Conronne d'or. MDCCI. Which loosely translates to: Service of the Holy Week in Latin and French to the use of Rome and Paris with the explanation of the ceremonies of the Churc … [Click Below for Full Description]
