(PURE, Abbé Michel de.)
Amsterdam, J. Louis de Lorme, & Estienne Roger, 1696. 12mo. Engr. front.+ (12),+ 176 pp.+ fold. printed genealogical tab.; engr. front.+ 221 pp.; engr. front.+ 118, 107-212 pp.; engr. front.+ 230 pp. The titles are printed in red and black. Some spotting on pp 13, 17-18 in part 3. Contemporary vellum, spines with brown gilt labels, marbles edges. Two volumes. Oettinger 7476. Warmholtz 3980. Andra upplagan.

Organisazed onto postulates, theorems, and corollaries, it treats problems ranging from the hydraulics of intrauterine and extrauterine circulation to the mechanics of the "contractile villi". For example he considered the blood to be a fluid flowing through conical vessels, according to Borelli's laws of hydraulics, and he imagined that the "contractile villi" (which explain the body's reaction to stimuli) expand, contract, and vibrate like ordinary musical s … [Click Below for Full Description]

Thevenot, Melchisedec
Paris, 1696. A very complete copy, with a distinguished Provenance. 1696. Paris. Thomas Moette. Two volumes in folio (350 mm x 218 mm). A very difficult and tricky collation, available upon request, but more complete than most copies, as mentioned by Brunet (including the parts that would integrate the fifth part never published and the rare fragments, see collation for details). Contemporary calf, boards with gilt fillet and centre with arms of the Lindesiana; neatly and tastefully rebacked to style, with raised bands, tooled and lettered in gilt. Foxing spots and toning throughout, heavier to places, occasional soiling; folding maps generally in excellent condition but with a few tears here and there.Amongst travel collections, Thevenot's occupies a distinguished place, being one of the most complete and lavishly produced; its scope includes Africa, the Far East, South East Asia, America, amongst other places. The relation on Australia is certainly one of the most significant and primary sources of information on the Island. The collection is also of great American interest; it contains Palafox's study on the natives, Acarette du Biscay's relation of La Plata and Gage's relation, which includes an important passage on Mexico, and is profusely illustrated. Asia and Africa are also well represented here, with actually more than half of the first volume being dedicated to it. Possibly the most important relation is that of Abel Tasman. The illustration is composed of maps, views and plates; the maps includes East Africa, the Indies, China, Hindustan, the Tasman map of Australi … [Click Below for Full Description]
