[Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

BURNABY, A[nthony]
London, printed in the year, 1696. 4to, (2) + 26pp, old burnhole in leaf A3 affecting one word on verso, recently well bound in old style quarter calf gilt. A very good copy. First edition: the Lauderdale copy.> Wing B.5742. Goldsmiths 3258. Kress 1940. Massie 1358. Burnaby gives eight reasons why a malt tax would be just, profitable, efficient and speedy. Thus his first reason was that, 'Such a tax will be less than usually taxes are, by reason every person will pay proportionable in the price of malt. The more universal any tax is, it is to be supposed ... to be the more equal; and I presume, no person will deny that such a tax will prove so universal, that not any person will escape paying his proportion according to his consumption, ergo, no person can complain; who consumes little, will have but little to pay'.

COCK, DAVID.
, . . Bierens de Haan 902; Muller, Pop. proza 1050; STCN (1 copy); WorldCat (same copy); cf. Bywater & Yamey, pp. 103-104. Second copy located of the 1696 edition of Dirck de Hollander's standard revision of a standard Dutch mathematical exercise book (with answers) for use in schools. The present edition describes itself as the fifth, but is at least the tenth and probably little changed from the 1685 edition, which also called itself the fifth. All 17th-century editions are very rare, the STCN recording 3 copies of one (1664) and no more than 2 copies of any other (some are not recorded in the STCN at all). The simple assignments are designed to teach basic arithmetic and bookkeeping for practical commercial purposes. David Cock was an Arnhem school master, active as such in at least the years 1641 to 1652. His present text book was his most successful work, with many further editions and adaptations to 1799.Slightly browned, but still in good condition. Boards slightly warped. A valuable window into 17th-century Dutch education and training for trade and commerce.

Giacomo Filippo AMETI
1696. Acquaforte e bulino, 1696. Bibliogra … [Click Below for Full Description]

Pagination: [10] ff., 676 cols., [2] ff., 685-772 cols., [13] ff., (Index); [2] ff., 928 cols., 1 p. (numbered "929"). Collation: *7 **2 ***1 A-Lll4; [pi]2 A-Qqq4. COMPLETE. Early blind-stamps of the now-defunct Theological Institute of Connecticut on first two and final two leaves. Minor even browning. THE FINEST EDITION of the works of Giraldi, Renaissance Italian poet and classical scholar; this imposing folio volume was finely printed and illustrated with engraved plates of high quality by Jan van den Aveelen after drawings by F. Boitard. Giraldi (1479-1552) was a man of great erudition. His 'Historia de diis gentium' was the first systematic study of Greek and Roman mythology, and his 'De annis et mensibus' and 'Calendarium Romanum et Graecum' helped to bring about the reform of the calender. It is a remarkable fact that Giraldi names CHAUCER ("Galfredus Chauserus") in his text (vol. II, col. 557 - G), noting Chaucer's high esteem in Britain and his many works, and describing him as a "Knight." Gira … [Click Below for Full Description]

Vincenzo Maria CORONELLI (Ravenna 1650 - Venezia 1718)
(Cfr: Brunet, I, p. 347; Ricciardi, I, p. 361). [Click Below for Full Description]

[Click Below for Full Description]
