DAHURON, René.
Cf. Arnold Arboretum I, p. 183; Bradley III, p. 171; Hunt 395 & 455; for Dahuron: NBG XII, col. 787. An unrecorded Italian translation of a French treatise on the pruning and grafting of the limbs of fruit trees, first published as Nouveau Traité de la Taille des Arbres Fruitiers (1696) with the twelve illustrations printed from woodcuts. For the present edition the twelve illustrations were engraved on three copperplates. The Hunt Library catalogue notes that the first French edition is "a rare little work, not listed in any of the larger botanical collections so far as we can find," and the present Italian translation appears to be even rarer.Dahuron was gardener to Georg Wilhelm, Duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg at Celle from 1690 to 1701 and then to Wilhelm I, King of Prussia at Potsdam. In very good condition and with generous margins, with only some minor water stains at the foot, not approaching the text or illustrations. An extremely rare Italian translation of an early treatise on the grafting of fruit trees.

ADIMARI (Ludovico).
In Firenze, Nella Stamperia di S.A.S. per Gio: Filippo Cecchi, 1696. 3 parties en 1 volume in-folio. 4ff. 111pp. 4ff. 208pp. Graesse, I, 20. G. Poggiali, "Serie de' testi di lingua stampati" (1813): II, 90. [Attributes: First Edition]

SAINTONGE ou SAINCTONGE (Louise-Geneviève Gillot de)].
Paris, Jean Guignard, [15 janvier] 1696. [Click Below for Full Description]

Johann Andreas Danzs (1654-1727) work on Hebrew grammar is a critical part of the larger canon of research on the Hebrew language. Danz attempted to perfect the study of Hebrew language and many of the terminologies that are used, even now, are attributed to him. However, at the time of writing, Danz inadvertently made the study of Hebrew grammar much more difficult than he had hoped. This work was the work that helped him create a name for himself, especially through his ideas of Hebrew antiquities. SUBJECTS: Hebrew language -- Grammar. Aramaic language -- Grammar. G. Le Roux)
[Click Below for Full Description]

London, Jacob Tonson, 1696. 8vo. (16), 606 pp., final blank f. With 2 folding engraved plates and a folding coin table. Contemporary English calf with blind rules on covers; spine gilt with label. First edition. - Ovington sailed as Chaplain of an East India Company ship and remained in Bombay and Surat, giving excellent descriptions of both cities and particularly of Mogul administration of the region. While the book includes detailed accounts of Madeira, Ascension Island, St Helena, Bombay, and the Cape of Good Hope, it also covers the coasts of Arabia: in particular, it has chapters on Mocha in Yemen and Muscat in Oman, with a discussion of the local trade in the abundant "beneficial commodities" such als balsam, myrrh, dates, frankincense and pearls (mentioning the "pearl-fishing of the island Baharem, which lies higher up in the Gulf"). Ovington mentions the strength of the Arabs' naval forces, which is such "that the Portuguese generally endeavour to avoid them". Curiously, he singles out the Arabs for their generosity to their enemies and slaves, who are said never to be used for any hard work, but are allowed to live "in ease and idleness", so that they almost come to be "in love with their confinement". - Spine bumped and rubbed; hinges starting. Wormhole in first two leaves slightly affecting line border on title; variously browned due to paper; wants front flyleaf. Extremely rare. Cox I, 279. Howgego I, O28. Wing O-701.
