Strasbourg: Jean Marlorat, 1686. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. 'The True Interest of Christian Princes' was a late 17th-century French pamphlet written by an unknown author who was highly critical of Louis XIV of France. This treatise attacked the French monarch for his inability to rise to greatness and lead morally. The author is unknown and the publisher's name Jean Marlorat is also presumed to be fictitious, as no other instances of Marlorat appeared in print.

[NETHERLANDS - STATES GENERAL - TREATY].
First edition, published in Dutch translation, of a treaty signed between the Dutch States General and Pasha Ahmed Karamanli (1686-1745), Turkish Muslim leader of the semi-autonomous state of Tripoli since 1711, when he killed the Ottoman governor and took the throne. The treaty, in 13 articles, guarantees the safety of Dutch ships trading at Tripoli and their crews (even when shipwrecked), sets restrictions on taxes (military supplies such as gunpowder, lead, iron, cannonballs and ships' masts are exempted). The governor of Tripoli is to see to it that the whole city is warned when one of the Dutch States General's ships drops anchor, so that all who own slaves can keep an eye on them to ensure they do not flee to the ship. Merchants under Dutch authority, whether Christians or Jews, are to be allowed to reside in the city unhindered, except for taxation. In very good condition and untrimmed.Knuttel 16776; for the treaty: A.H. de Groot, "Ottoman North Africa and the Dutch Republic ...", in: Revue de l'Occident Musulman ..., 39 (1985), pp. 131-147, at p. 144.

1686. A collection of approx. 72 pamphlets, mostly religious in nature though peppered with some secular tracts, most published in Great Britain in the18th century but with a few before and after, including a wealth of sermons relating to the nature and practice of religion, its place in civil society, and other topics, many of the sermons in response to landmark occasions both large and small including days of thanksgiving and fasting, the ordination or retirement of a minister, funerals of noted persons, etc. Most of the pamphlets were deaccessioned from an institutional library and in most cases the text blocks have been removed from earlier bindings; the works are all intact and in generally good condition except for some staining and foxing; though most lack their original wrpps. cover;, the text blocks are generally sound, with an occasional loose page here or there. London, Oxford, Glasgow, Cambridge, Leeds, etc. 1686-1845. An interesting compendium of material which taken in its entirety provides a good overview of religious thought in the British Isles in the 18th century.

Agnolo Monosini
ont> Francesco Tramontino : Venetia; [Venice], 1686 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. A scarce edition of this important Italian dictionary, being the second modern European dictionary that was ever published. A scarce work, last seen at auction in 1999. In the original Italian. The signatures run as *6, **6, A-Z4, Aa-Zz4, Aaa-Zzz4, Aaaa-Qqqq4, a-h6, i-k4, l3. This is a very scarce edition, sitting in between the publication of the official second edition in 1623, and the official third edition in 1691. This is an unauthorised edition. 'Vocabolario degli Accademici della Crusca' was the first Italian language dictionary ever compiled, originally published in 1612. The dictionary is also notable because it was only the second dictionary of a modern English language published, with a Spanish one being published the year before this work was first published. As a result, this work served as a model for similar dictionaries that would go on to be published in English, German, and French. It was also an innovative work as it was one of the first examples of organising the entries in alphabetical order, rather than the traditional form of organising by topic. It also differed from similar works as it had fewer references to regional uses of words, and didn't place a distinction between prose and poetry language. The work was compiled by the Accademia della Crusca, an Italian society for scholars, linguits, and philologists. It is the oldest linguistic society in the world, being founded in Florence in 1583. It's main goal was, at the time of formation, to maintain the purity of the Ita … [Click Below for Full Description]

WIEN ( Vienna ):
Kupferstich ( Flugblatt ), dat. 1686, 30,5 x 39,8 Drugulin, 3227, Sammlung Eckl, IV, 1100.
