Axel Fleming af Lais (1655-1714), son till presidenten i Bergskollegiet Erik Fleming, skrev in sig som student i Uppsala 1664, blev auskultant i Bergskollegium 1669-73, kommissarie i reduktionskommissionen och slutligen dess vice president 1710. Han var även bror till Henrik Fleming, också en av Schefferus studenter.

A very good tight copy. John Owen (c. 1564 - 1622) was born in Wales and educated at Oxford where he was a Fellow at New College. He is best known for his Latin epigrams, collected in his Epigrammata which he started publishing in 1606. On a large variety of topics, they were very popular both in England and on the continent and were translated into English, French, German, and Spanish. He was known as the "English Martial". Der ursprünglich aus Sachsen stammende Hocke ist bekannter für sein ab 1681 ausgeübtes Amt als Wiener Stadtschreiber und Syndicus primarius (höchstrangiger Stadtkonsulent). "Er bewährte sich während der Türkenbelagerung 1683, über die er 1685 einen ausführlichen und aufschlußreichen Bericht veröffentlichte [...] Er hinterließ zwei Häuser beim Kärntnertor, die er 1683 bzw. 1684 gekauft hatte" (R. L'opera, pubblicata per la prima volta l'anno precedente, precorre nell'oggetto e nel metodo della trattazione l'altro celebre scritto del de Wicquefort, L'ambassadeur et ses fonctions, che vedrà la luce nel 1682. La seconda parte, che reca la dicitura tipografica a Ville-Franche, chez Pierre Petit, è un opuscolo attribuito al de Galardi che voleva essere refutatorio nei confronti del trattato del de Wicquefort. Un Wallon ou Flamand nommé Gallardi, sans égards pour la triste situation de Wicquefort, publia la réfutation de ses Mémoires. "Rensefelder Wunders": Der Hamburger Wundermann und "Kröse-Köper" (Krug-Verkäufer) Jürgen Frese hatte einen Lüneburger Patrizier aus dem bedeutenden Hause von Witzendorff, der sich zum Atheismus bekannte, wieder zurück zum Glauben geführt, indem er vor den Augen des Lüneburger Kaufmann einen glühenden Ring in die Hand nahm, ohne sich zu verbrennen. Diese Geschichte gibt es in zahlreichen Varianten, u. a. spielt sie auch zwischen Gefangenen. Kortholt war davon so beeindruckt, daß er den Ring in der Kieler Bibliothek anbringen ließ und die Geschichte episch ausgewalzt veröffentlichte. - Der 1633 in Burg auf Fehmarn geborene Christian Kortholt wurde 1663 Professor für Griechisch in Rostock, akzeptierte dann aber einen Ruf an die neugegründete Universität in Kiel, wo er 1694 verstarb. - Titel mit handschriftl. Besitzeintrag F. M. Capilettera ornati su legno, dedica a stampa a Pietro Morosini; in principio, due tavv. genealogiche a p. pag. della stirpe di Augusto e della stirpe di Livia e indici delle cose notabili. Le pp. 685-720 contengono le postille del Davanzati e alcuni scritti del Davanzati medesimo circa la sua traduzione tacitiana. Errori di numerazione. Gore lievi alle prime cc. e all'antiporta. Antica firma al titolo. Buon esemplare in barbe. Edizione secentesca veneziana delle opere complete di Tacito, con il testo originale affiancato dalla celebre versione del Davanzati (Firenze, 1529-ivi, 1606). La traduzione del Davanzati, la più meravigliosa che sia mai stata fatta (Foscolo), rende egregiamente, seppure in uno stile denso di arcaismi e fiorentinismi, l'estrema concisione e secchezza del testo tacitiano, talora reso ancora più stringato dell'originale.
