OLDENBURG, HENRY (ED.); CHRISTOPH SAND (TRANS.)
Henricus & Theodorus Boom, Amsterdam, 1672. FIRST LATIN EDITION - PREPARED FOR DISTRIBUTION IN CONTINENTAL EUROPE - OF THE PHILOSOPHICAL TRANSACTIONS OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY, THE WORLD'S FIRST SCIENTIFIC JOURNAL AND A KEY VEHICLE FOR THE PROMOTION OF EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCE AND THE DISSEMINATION OF SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERIES. EXTREMELY RARE COMPLETE SET IN SIX VOLUMES. From the time it was created at a 1660 meeting attended by a dozen academics and interested amateurs at Gresham College in London following a lecture by Christopher Wren, the Royal Society of London was devoted to an observational and experimental approach to unlocking the secrets of nature. "[T]he demonstration, sponsorship, discussion, and promotion of experimental learning was at [the Society's] heart." (Tinswood, op. cit.) The motto chosen for the Society by John Evelyn - nullius in verba (roughly, "nothing by [mere] words,") - reflected the Society's philosophy of requiring that conclusions be supported by first-hand observation and the meticulous collection and recording of data. Its Fellows and correspondents around the world devised and carried out a wide variety of investigations in geology, meteorology, astronomy, physiology, and other fields; and reported the results in the Philosophical Transactions. Some of the experiments may have been absurd or misguided by modern standards; many, however, contained the seeds of important later developments. The Transactions also provided readers with reviews of important books (for example, Hooke's Micrographia and Redi's Esperienze intorno alla Generazione degl'Insetti … [Click Below for Full Description]

CHARAS (Moyse, apothicaire)
¶ Krivatsy n°2368. "reissue with additions" - Wellcome p.327 - Waller 11793 (édit. 1694) - Osler n°2279 (trad. angl.) - Dezeimeris II. 668.

Lyon: d'Antoine Galien, 1672. Lyon:: d'Antoine Galien, 1672., 1672. 4to. COLLATION: PAGINATION: [xx], 385, [25] pp. With elaborately engraved half-title showing an operation and various surgical instruments mounted on the wall, three persons with rope holding the patient down, five others in attendance, engraved by Tixerrdat, 401 figures, 1 heraldic plate; total plates: 48 [plate 22 in duplicate, 2 monster plates are unnumbered]. Signature on half-title of P. Lescuyer. First French translation by Sir Francois Deboze, of Cheiroplotheke, seu, Armamentarium chirurgicum, issued in 1655. There was a second edition of the French issue printed in 1675. It has the same collation, but the imprint differs. / The work is much devoted to surgical instruments, many of which were invented by the author himself. The plates support the descriptive narrative, dealing with fractures, cranial surgery, showing the use of various instruments, amputation of the breast, urinary tools, castration, etc. Of particular interest are the two plates showing the figure of an infant monster, born in 1671, thus new to this edition of Scultet. The infant had malformed limbs and the facial structure was also disfigured. BURROUGH, Edward
London: published for the benefit of generations to come, 1672. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. Edward Burrough was a 17th-century Quaker preacher most remembered for his debates with John Bunyan and for his deliberate breaking of the Quaker Act which landed him in prison. His impact on the Quaker community was quite vast - traveling extensively throughout England preaching and converting people to the Society of Friends. One of his most important acts was requesting that King Charles II offer relief of Puritan persecution for the Quakers in New England in America. Following his death, his collected works were published under the title 'The Memorable Works of a Son of Thunder'. This 1672 edition of Burrough's works includes testimonial accounts by several other authors describing Burrough's life.

In Verona: Per Andrea Rossi, 1672. I am limited to 12 photos on eBay, but I have many more photos on my website...just ask. An impressive and highly desirable 1672 edition of Lodovico Moscardo's catalog of his 'Wunderkammer', or Cabinet of Curiosities. Many scientists and archaeologists had such exhibits but Moscardo's was of note. He published a book describing and outlining the contents of this museum which contained not only works of art, but specimens of antiquity such as weapons, coins, clocks, instruments, fossils and shells, pottery and jewelry, gems and stones, and minerals found all around the world. According to Findlen, "the catalogues of 17th-century collections such as those of Veronese noble Ludovico Moscardo were all models of wit and persuasions; dwarfs, chameleons, birds of paradise, and abnormal trees formed by nature happily coexisted alongside mathematical instruments." This fine 1672 edition features a myriad of impressive illustrations throughout, printed in Verona - the home of Moscardo's 17th-century museum.

STIERNHÖÖK, Joh(an) O(lofsson),
Stockholm (= Holmiae), excudebat Nicolaus Wankijf, 1672. 8vo. Tb., 10 Bll., 433 S., 1 Bl. (Errata). [Click Below for Full Description]

MOSCARDO, Lodovico
In Verona: Per Andrea Rossi, 1672. 1672 Moscardo Museum of Curiosities Illustrated Oddities Archaeology Verona RAREAn impressive and highly desirable 1672 edition of Lodovico Moscardo's catalog of his 'Wunderkammer', or Cabinet of Curiosities. According to Findlen,"the catalogues of 17th-century collections such as those of Veronese noble Ludovico Moscardo were all models of wit and persuasions; dwarfs, chameleons, birds of paradise, and abnormal trees formed by nature happily coexisted alongside mathematical instruments." This fine 1672 edition features a myriad of impressive illustrations throughout, printed in Verona - the home of Moscardo's 17th-century museum.Item number: #7632 Price: $1500MOSCARDO, LodovicoNote overo Memorie del Museo del Conte Lodovico Moscardo, nobile veronese, uno dei padri dell'Accademia Filarmonica... dal medesimo descritte in tre libri...: con l'aggiunta in questa 2a impressione della seconda parte dello stesso autore accresciuta di cose spettanti particolarmente all'antichità...In Verona: Per Andrea Rossi, 1672.Details: · Collation: Complete with all pages; 2 parts in 1o [16], 488Continuous pagination across both partsSecond part has separate t.p.o Filled with numerous engravin … [Click Below for Full Description]
