MÜLLER, Henrik :
Chra., Trøkt hos Mikkel Thomesøn. 1669. 12mo. Nyere skinnryggbind med enkel ryggforgylling og tittelfelt i mørkere brunt skinn. (2), 280 s.. Bibl. Norv. I s. 264. Proveniens : Jonas Skougaard, som i kollasjoneringen bemerker signaturen på tittelbladet "Ped. Møller". Kan dette være oversetterens eget eksemplar? I en katalog fra 1973 omtales denne boken som en norsk inkunabel. Michel Thomessøn, boktrykker i Christiania i perioden 1656-88. Marck. Oc nu trøckt i Kiøbenhaffn oc selgis for en Marck". (NBL XVI s. 221). Boken har mange feilpagineringer

SPEELMAN, Cornelis. -
Amsterdam, Marcus Doornick, (1669).4to. Modern boards. With woodcut on title-page. (24) pp.* First edition. - South Celebes (Sulawesi) lay on the route that the Dutch took from Batavia to Amboyna. The sultan of Makassar (now Ujung Pandang), the leading representative of Islam in the region, was especially hostile to the Dutch missionary drive. He was also determined to protect Makassar's position as an international harbour for the spice trade, open to all nations. With the support of the English, Danes and Portuguese, he had long resisted the efforts of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) to monopolize the spice trade. Alarmed by this development, Batavia in 1666 sent an expedition against Makassar led by Cornelis Speelman (1628-1684). He forced the sultan in 1669 to conclude a treaty which the Dutch, obtained a monopoly of Makassar's trade and succeeded in bringing South Celebes under Dutch supremacy with the help of the Bugis people who were being oppressed by the Macassarese . - Very rare.Landwehr, VOC, 238; Cat. LOWER, Richard.
Londini: Typis Jo. Redmayne impensis Jacobi Allestry, 1669. FIRST EDITION, second issue (see below) of "the most important contribution to circulatory physiology after William Harvey's De motu cordis, published three years before Lower's birth. Nobel Laureate André Cournand considered Lower's book to be one of the most important texts in the history of physiology because of the nature of its observations, the rigor of its experimental design and demonstrations, and its simple and convincing form of presentation... "Lower entered medical practice in London in 1666 and continued experiments he had begun in Oxford on the motion and color of the blood and on transfusion. His observations on these subjects were summarized in Tractatus de corde. "Lower made important observations on the structure of cardiac muscle, the quantity of blood in the vascular system, the velocity of blood flow, and the effects of aeration of blood as it passed through the lungs. He was impressed by the complex arrangement of muscular fibers in the heart and felt their unique arrangement was responsible for the contraction of the ventricular cavities in systole that propelled blood into the vascular system. In a series of experiments performed with Robert Hooke, Lower showed that the red color of arterial blood was due to its contact with 'fresh air' in the lungs. His book also contained observations on the technique and safety of blood transfusion, a technique he pioneered" (W. Bruce Fye in Grolier One Hundred (Medicine). There are two issues: in the second issue, the original leaf A6 has been replac … [Click Below for Full Description]
