Trutz Nachtigal. 7 Bl., 317 S., 1 Bl. Mit Kupfertitel und 24 gestoch. Notentafeln. Pergamentbd d. Z. (etwas gedunkelt) mit handschriftl. Rückentitel und zwei intakten Messingschließen.

Köln, Wilhelm Friessem, 1660.. . Gutes Exemplar. - Dünnhaupt 3.3. Eitner IX 220. Sommervogel VII 1428. Vgl. Goed. III 194 1 ff., Faber du Faur 975 und 976, Jantz 2362, Manheimer 395 und Wolffheim 2438.

The Book of Common Prayer [London, 1662] [with:] The New Testament, London 1660 [with] The Whole Book of Psalms, London 1661. Bound together in a contemporary "sombre" binding

London: Henry Hills and John Field, 1660 (NT); [London: Bill & Barker, 1662] (BCP); 1661 (Psalms). (BINDING) 8vo. Woodcut of the Royal Arms of Charles II on verso of final leaf of the Common Prayer. Contemporary black morocco "sombre" binding, elaborately tooled in blind on upper and lower covers with a central lozenge cartouche made from double impressions of two separate tools, the same tools being used to decorate the four corners, the design surrounded by floral sprays, spine of six raised banks with floral tooling in each of the seven compartments, inner gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, a.e.g. Front joint repaired, skillful minor restoration to the corners by Sotheran, overall a very attractive binding. Lacks first three leaves of Book of Common Prayer. Herbert 669 or 670 (with OT); Griffiths 1662-1663.3 . A handsome volume, made even more interesting by the contemporary ownership inscription "Elizabeth Maynard 1663" on the verso of the New Testament title page, and, in her handwriting on the blank recto of the Psalms, "What Children I have christened [there follows a list of nine names] Innocents day 1665" plus additional notations of subsequent christenings in 1665 and 1667. As the "Children" included a Mrs Cooper, it may be that the word is used in an ecclesiastical sense; and it is interesting to conjecture what role Elizabeth Maynard played in the ceremony in these years following the Restoration of 1660

Ductor Dubitantium, or The Rule of Conscience In all her generall measures; Serving as a great Instrument for the determination of Cases of Conscience. In Four Books.

London: Printed by James Flesher, for Richard Royston 1660. - Ductor dubitantium was designed as a comprehensive manual of cases of conscience which would form a capstone to the English Protestant edifice already created by Sanderson, Hall, and Perkins. No longer would English clergy need to consult Roman Catholic casuists and run the risk of being misled by their Ôprobablism.Õ Taylor promised general rules from which every particular case could be resolve.Taylor believed that there is always a right answer in moral dilemmas, even if human reason cannot fathom it; and while offering the conventional teaching on the obligation of an Ôerroneous conscience,Õ he placed an overwhelming emphasis on the duty of human reason to discern the good act, where ÔgoodÕ is defined by rational nature and divine commandsÓ (John Spurr in Dictionary of Seventeenth-Century British Philosophers). Two volumes in one, folio [vi], xl, 559, [3, blank], 558, [1, errata and catalogue, with verso blank] pp Engraved title and frontisportrait, engraved vignette of Jesus carrying a lamb on the title-page to the second volume. Printed title-pages for both volumes ruled in red. L6 in the second volume is a cancel, as usual, reflecting a change due to the Restoration of Charles II. Contemporary calf, ruled in blind, expertly rebacked and recornered. Title in gilt on spine. Light intermittent dampstain at upper corner. A very good, clean copy. First edition. ÒTaylor's success owes as much to his literary talent as his intellect. He was notable for his eloquence, his almost poetical imagination, and his wide biblical and classical learning: even his opponents recognized his Ôadmirable wit, great parts, quick and elegant pen, his abilities in critical learning, and his profound skill in antiquitiesÕ (Wood, Ath. Oxon., 3.784)Ó (Oxford DNB). He has been called the ÒShakespeare of DivinesÓ for his poetic style of expression. Wing T324. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Traum Geschicht von Dir und Mir. 103 S. incl. gestoch. Titel von A. Frölich. 12°. Kalblederbd (um 1900, vordergelenk schwach) mit Rückenfilete.

Ohne Ort und Druck, (1660).. . Sehr seltene zweite (?)

Paris, s.n. 1660 - in-4, 8 pp., vélin souple, dos lisse muet (reliure moderne). Bon exemplaire. [Attributes: Hard Cover]

London: Printed by T.[homas] N.[ewcomb] for James Magnes,1660.First edition, first issue. Small folio. (11 x 7 inches; 280 x 180 mm.). It actually contains only twenty-three instead of twenty-six sermons; sermon 9 is left out altogether, but two of the sermons are printed twice over, nos. 16 and 17 being merely repetitions of nos. 5 and 3. The collation...will be seen to be very erratic;...The pagination is very faulty, although the right number of pages, 411, is finally arrived at....There are in addition several minor misprints in the pagination. There are also variable irregularities in some of the signatures....a large number of corrections were made while the book was passing through the press....also note a change in the type after sheet Aa,...[indicating] that the two parts of the book were printed simultaneously at two different presses....The book was printed by Thomas Newcomb (1649-1681), and was twice reissued with new title-pages in 1661 (see [Keynes] nos. 32 and 32a)". Of the three volumes of John Donne's sermons published, volume III is the rarest (Keynes, p. 53-54).Contemporary tree calf, ruled in blind, spine decoratively tooled in gilt with a red morocco spine label, lettered in gilt. Spine expertly and handsomely rebacked with original spine laid down. A few tears and minor abrasions to covers, expertly repaired. All edges speckled.
