Prachtvolle große Ansicht. Schöner nuancenreicher Abdruck. Im Vordergrund die Garonne, an deren Ufer Wagen und Fußgänger zu sehen sind. Auf dem Fluß befinden sich einige Boote. Am unteren Bildrand leeres Spruchband. Im Bereich des Himmels drei Wappenkartusche, die rechte Kartusche ist ebenfalls leer. Links unten Stechervermerk "Caspar Merian sc.". Von zwei Platten gedruckt. Gorgeous great view. Nice nuance rich printing. In the front the Garonne, at the shore wagons and pedestrians. On the river we find some boats. At the lower margin is an empty banner located. At the area of the sky three coat of arms cartouches, the right one is empty as well. Printed by two plates. Wrinkled and slightly spotted. Weak stamp at verso (not shining through).

Bella ristampa di Leida di questo trattato baconiano, apparso all'origine nel 1605 in inglese con il titolo On the Proficience and Advancement of Learning e poi tradotto in latino con aggiunte, con il presente titolo, nel 1623. La prima parte è dedicata all'esaltazione della scienza, mentre la seconda concerne il progresso delle scienze: la sua opera ha vero valore, come di programma, discutibile nelle parti e in certi concetti anche fondamentali, ma fecondo nell'ispirazione, per la costituzione del nuovo sapere nel quale s'esalta il mondo moderno, scrive Ernesto Codignola nella voce dedicata all'opera in Dizion. The binding expertly restored with rebacking, edges and corners neatly repaired. Scratches on covers repaired. Edges gilt. Endpapers renewed. Engraved ornamental title-page. (8),301,(3) pp. and 40 double-page maps and plans (43x52 cm, some larger) with original HAND-COLOURING IN OUTLINE. Title with a small stamp in upper margin. Lower margin of title-page a bit frayed. Small wormholes at end, mainly marginal, but a few in image of last 2 maps. With the usual browning to text and maps. ¶ First edition of the first full mapping of Schleswig-Holstein and the FIRST ATLAS PRINTED IN DENMARK. The work is highly esteemed, as the mapping and surveying by the Danish cartographer Johannes Mejer showed a precision which was without competition at its time. Mejer was educated in the tradition of Tycho Brahe and Longomontanus, and in the years 1638-48 he mapped Schleswig-Holstein and published these 37 maps in Danckwerth's description of Schleswig-Holstein. These maps were the best for nearly 150 years, and were used by Blaeu and other carthographers. The Danish King, Chr. IV, urged him to proceed with his mapping of Denmark, which he did for some years, making maps of Jutland and a general map of Denmark, in order to make a Nordic atlas, but only these 37 maps were published. The first part was first published by Octavio de Strada with engravings by Aegidius Sadeler in 1600, and with the comments by Typotius posthumously published in Prag 1601, with the continuation of the second and third part 1602-03. The first reprint by Schönewetter was published in Frankfurt in 1642. Emblematical representations of all wordly and spiritual rulers of the world. The first volume contains national political emblems; the second eccclesaistical; and the last royal. Jacob Typotius (ca. 1540-1600) come to Sweden and was from 1578 royal secretary to Johan III. He was imprisoned for unknown reasons in Åbo in Finland 1579 or 1581 and relased after 12 years in prison. He left Sweden in 1597 and become royal historian to Rudolph II in Prague
