Teodósio, Prince of Brazil (1634-1653).
[Lisbon], 10. XII. 1652. Folio. ¼ p. With integral address panel and papered seal. To Joao Ruiz Branco, the governor of Leiria county, giving orders regarding the tithes of Óbidos and Alcobaça. Teodósio, heir-apparent of Portugal and the first Prince of Brasil, was a very intelligent and literate young man (he was known as "the astrologer prince") and the great hope of the Portuguese Restoration. His death caused great unrest in Portugal, given the physical and mental weakness of his successor Afonso VI. - Somewhat stained, traces of folds. Autographs by Teodósio are exceptionally rare due to his premature death.

CAUSSIN NICOLAS.
per Carlo Zenero, 1652. Cm. 13,5, pp. (24) 477 (3). Testatine, iniziali e finalini ornati incisi in xilografia.

Tome second', page numbering starting with page 3, (Aii); volumes 3 and 4 dated 1663, published Rouen and Paris, and volumes 5-8 dated 1662, published Rouen and Paris. Sully's influence was widespread; he encouraged agriculture, urged free circulation of produce, promoted stock raising, planned a system of canals and forbade the destruction of the forests. He strengthened the French military establishment, promoting the construction of great lines of defences on the frontiers. He represented Henry at the Court of King James I, arranged Henry's marriage to Marie De Medicis, and helped to put down several revolts by the nobility. Sully's political power and influence ended with assassination of Henry IV in 1620. While he was unpopular with his colleagues, he nonetheless exhibited a gifted executive ability throughout his career as well as an unbending loyalty to the King. Sully was largely responsible for the transformation in France between 1598-1610, when agriculture and commerce improved, and foreign peace and i … [Click Below for Full Description]

The Hague: Adriani Vlacq, 1652. Hardcover. Very Good. Bound in 1/2 blue morocco over marbled boards. Marbled end pages. [20], 282 pages; 16 cm. Clean, unmarked pages. Horn's On American Origins "traces the supposed original sources from whence the North American Indians were derived." Berkeley, John and Carteret, George
1652. An extraordinary rarity, and the first document signed by both we have ever seen reach the market The letter, signed by most of the King’s Privy Council as well, instructed the militia to guard the seacoast of England from attack during the Second Anglo-Dutch War In the mid-17th century, the English and Dutch were the two great mercantile and maritime powers, and they both had colonies overseas. Each was seeking more colonies, and each was hoping to dominate trade (or at least keep the other from doing so). Their rivalry reached the boiling point with a war that lasted from 1652-1654. The Dutch were audacious and went right into the English Channel, achieving a victory there. The English had some successes as well, and the war ended without anything really being resolved. The second Anglo-Dutch War was provoked by the English in 1664, as they calculated that economic primacy could now be seized from the Dutch. The war contained quite a few great English victories, such as James II's taking of the Dutch colony of New Netherlands (present day New York and New Jersey) in the first year. But in a great naval battle off the coast of England in June 1666, the Dutch won a significant victory. After that, England was in a war fever, knowing that the Dutch fleet could show up anywhere. Lookouts were posted everywhere along the sea coasts, all searching for a sign of the Dutch. Shortly after its taking, King Charles II gave his brother the Duke of York those lands that had been part of New Netherlands. The fidelity with which Sir George Carteret and John Berkeley, First … [Click Below for Full Description]

[Click Below for Full Description]
