Pauls Church-yard at the signe of the Kings Head' (London), 5 3/8 x 7 1/4 inches tall full leather bound, gilt rule and decoration to front cover. Four raised bands, gilt design and gilt-lettered crimson leather labels to spine, [4], 46 pp. Minimal rubbing to covers. Chipping to fore and bottom page edges and browning to margins of preliminary imprimatur leaf. Very slight chipping to top page edge and very minor foxing to title page. Minor age-toning to margins of most pages, especially upper margins. Repaired four-inch closed tear on one leaf, not disturbing legibility. Otherwise, a very good copy of this scarce title in a handsome, ornately gilded binding by Starr Bookworks of Apache Junction, Arizona. ~LLL~ Edward Reynolds (1599-1676) was a bishop of Norwich in the Church of England and an author. After the death of Oliver Cromwell, he and other presbyterians sought an accommodation with Richard Cromwell, and on 11 October 1658, on behalf of himself and other London presbyterian ministers, Reynolds delivered an oral address to the new protector. In 1659 he preached at the opening session of parliament, and his sermons to parliament and London notables throughout 1659 and 1660 became increasingly pointed about the need for peace, unity, and moderation, codes for the restoration of the monarchy and a moderate episcopacy. Dette værk udkom i Frankfurt am Main i årene 1623-1631 i to bind med tilsammen 830 illustrationer. På hvert kobberstik ses et prospekt ved siden af et symbolsk bllede. Det symbolske billede bliver nedenunder uddybet i rimede sentenser. I 1637-1638 kom en ny udgave ved Paul Fürst i Nürnberg. Han skar antallet af illustrationer ned til 800, ændrede deres rækkefølge og gav værket en ny titel : "Sciographia cosmica". I de næste ca. 50 år udsendte Paul Fürst og hans efterkommere værket uden større ændringer. Nærværende eksemplar er fra en udgave af "Sciographia cosmica".

Paul Fürst 1637, Nürnberg, 1638. altkolorierter Kupferstich, Blattmaß: 18,5 x 15 cm (quer), Plattenmaß: 15 x 20 cm (quer). Der Kupferstich zeigt eine Ansicht der Stadt Husum aus halber Vogelperspektive. Im Vordergrund, auf der rechten Bildseite, ist eine männliche Figur in orientalischer Kleidung (Harpokrates) als Allegorie der Verschwiegenheit dargestellt, die in Bezug zu den lateinischen und deutschen Textzeilen (moralisierende Sinnsprüche) unterhalb der Abbildung und zum Motto (über der Abbildung) steht. - Das Blatt stammt aus Daniel Meisners Politischem Schatzkästlein, Ausgabe Paul Fürst, mit dem Titel Sciographia Cosmica. Hinweis auf die Ausgabe ist die Tafelbezeichnung B 79 (am oberen rechten Bildrand) und die beiden Wappenkartuschen mit Stadtwappen und Stadtbezeichnung an den oberen Bildecken. - Das Blatt ist leicht schräg beschnitten, angerändert und randfleckig. Contents very good, complete, minor dampstaining to pp. 1-5 and to bottom outer margin from p. 225 on. STC 11964. Godwyn (1587-1642) was a scholar whose book on Roman history for use at the Abingdon school was a standard text on the subject for over a century.
