MOREAU (Pierre)
Paris, Chez l'Autheur, 1632. [Click Below for Full Description]

Hondius, Jodocus
FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE CARTE ? FIGURES MAP OF ASIA"Asia recens summa cura delineata Auct. Iud: Hondio". Copper engraving by Jodocus Hondius, published in Amsterdam in 1632 (3rd state) by Jan Jansson. Coloured by a later hand. Size: 45,5 x 56,5 cm.This highly attractive map embraces all of Asia. The Middle East is very well formed, although the Caspian Sea has the egg-like form it maintained on maps until the 1730s. The Arabian Peninsula is well defined, based on Portuguese sources, and India takes its form after the maps of the Dutch adventurer, Jan Huygen van Linschoten (1596), which, in turn, borrowed from Portuguese sources.? Southeast Asia and the Indonesian Archipelago are derived from charts made for the Dutch East India Company (the VOC), while China is derived from Jesuit sources, although Korea is an oddly elongated peninsula. The geography of the region would remain an enigma to Europeans until the early 18th Century.? Japan's Honshu and Kyushu are recognizable, although the area further to the northeast remains a vast mystery.True to the carte ? figures' style, which was the hallmark of the great contemporary period of Dutch Baroque cartography, the map is surrounded on four sides by registers of fine vignettes. Along the top of the map are views of Famagusta (Cyprus), Rhodes (Greece), Damascus, Jerusalem, Aden and Hormuz (Persia).? Along the left side of the map are depictions of people in local costume including Syrians, Arabs, Armenians & Persians, Indians, and Sumatrans.? On the right side are depictions that include Javanese, Moluccans & Bandans, Chinese, R … [Click Below for Full Description]

Augsburg 1632.]
Utan ort, (1632). Folio. 34x30,5 cm (bild: 22,5x30,5). I bakgrunden ses staden Augsburg.

Ovidius Naso, Publius (43 BC-17 AD); Sandys, George (1561-1629), translator
J. Lichfield,, Oxford, 1632. Folio: ?6 (-blank ?1), 4, A-D4, E4 (-blank E4), F-Z4, Aa-Zz4, Aaa-Ttt4, Vvv2. (Leaves Q2 and 3 reversed.) With an added engraved title, engraved portrait frontispiece, and fifteen full-paged engravings. The First Illustrated Edition Sandys? important translation of Ovid, including his translation of Book One of Vergil?s ?Aeneid? Sandys never accomplished the task of translating the entire poem. The work that he found ?too heavy a burthen? was later taken up by his admirer, John Dryden. On the front end-paper of this volume is a manuscript quote, attributed to Dryden, which reads, ?English poetry owes much of its present beauty to Sandys? translations.??In 1621 Sandys arrived in Virginia, and during his residence there as secretary of the Colony he occupied his leisure time in completing his translation of Ovid on his estate in present day Sury, across the James River from Williamsburg, publishing it upon his return to England in 1626. His stay in this country was short, but his translation of Ovid is considered ?the first utterance of the conscious literary spirit articulated in America? (Quoted from Wither to Prior). "With the ?Aeneid? Vergil had realized the grandiose project of a Homeric-style poem, a national epic for Roman culture. Ovid in realizing his ambitions for a work of great scope takes another direction. The outer form was to be epic (the hexameter is its distinctive mark), as was the ample scale, but the model, which is based on Hesiod, is that of a "collective poem", one that gathers a series of independent stories linked by a si … [Click Below for Full Description]

PEREZ (Antonio).
En Barcelona, por Pedro Lacavalleria, 1632. - in-4. 2ff. 270pp. (i.e.272). 5ff. SHAKESPEARE William.:
London, Printed by Tho. Cotes for Richard Allot at his shop at the signe of the Black Bear in Paul's Church-Yard, 1632. COMPLETE PLAY EXTRACTED FROM THE SECOND FOLIO OF SHAKESPEAR'S WORKS 1632. No publisher, date or title page. There is a typed letter from the well know London Bookshop Henry Sotheran giving the publisher and date (I surmise that they had a defective copy and had the individual plays bound up, the letter also states that the binding is by the fine binder, Bernard Middleton, though unsigned, there are a few other plays in same binding listed online stating they were bound by the same binder. Slim folio, approximately 310 x 210 mm, 12½ x 8¼ inches, printed in double columns, head and tail pieces, pages: 107-128, finely bound in full mottled two toned paneled calf, gilt title to uppercover. Pages 110 &111 have a small pale stain (see attached images), slight pale staining to four inner margins, nowhere near text, slight rippling to pages, occasional small pale mark of no consequence, otherwise a very good clean copy. See: W. W. Greg, A Bibliography of the English Printed Drama to the Restoration, Volume 2, page 550. All the printers mistakes to catchwords are the same as listed in Greg. Marino Gio. Battista
appresso Ottavio Beltrano s.d. [Attributes: First Edition]
